I have been fascinated by Alexander's ability to surmount overwhelming odds. In have also been fascinated by his tactical genius and power. So, i wanted to find out from many people more learned than i, which battles they thought took the most tactical genius to win, and only win. A few on my shortl...

Alexander the Great: a Spartan general or an Athenian democr
Hello all,The direct poles of ancient hellenic ideals were, most probably, those of Athens and Sparta. I was wishing to convey the question whether Alexander the Great was a man who let his ideals and beliefs be the main leader in his life or those of a general who treats his life, much like his fath...

The 10 horned beast
Hello Although i mite not be makin any friends by posting this thread on an Alexander the Great Website i would just like to refer back to the Book of Revelation in the Bible. It describes Alexander as the 10 Horned Beast, not something very flattering as you can imagine. I think that with our obses...

Hello one and all Alexander the great as we all know was one of the greatest military leaders of all time. He conquered nearly all of the known world in his suprisingly short life span. Greece; Backstabbers, surely?
HelloPhillip II of Macedonia united the Greeks in his Pan-Hellenic league some two thousand years ago. At Corinth the Greek states promised to uphold the Pan-Hellic league. Here Here Kenny,Stravos we all admire your patrism however calling Greece the cradle of civilization might be exagerating it about a trillion times over. Greece helped in the nurturing civilization but for the cradle of it you have to look thousands of years before.

Re: Top 10 military genius' of all time?
Hi JonaGood idea both of those people came to mind but i think that Patton was a major factor through the war. If Italy had remained in eUROPE Hitler would have been ableto use it as a another front, the Battle of the Bulge might have become the Battle of the Alps and the Germans would have had a be...

Parmenion and Philotas
Hello once again,As we should all know Philotas and Parmenion were two of Alexander's best generals. Alexander once said that Parmenion and his veterans were the "backbone" of his army, this was at Thebes. Then over the ensueing campaign Alexander at one point split his army in two, leavin...

Hi
You say that Julius was a fan of Alexander, but there was the time when JC was about 28 and he saw a statue of ATG and cried his eyes out because ATG had already conquered the known world by then!

Re: Alexander is defeated!!!
Hey Dean,
I was also wondering along those same lines. I believe your thinking is correct. Alex probably wouldnt have gone home, hemight risk losing all of his hard fought lands, but he might have taken a brief respite and he probably would have sent Ptolmy or Perdikkas home. Good thinking!
