Salve, Companions of ATG!
Yes, I am more interested in Alexander's psyche than his exploits. Therefore, at this time, I present another inquiry relative to his mind.Question: What were the thoughts going through his mind in his last few days of life? Otehr than physical agony, what were his thoughts? What could he have possibly imgained and pondered, knowing his life ebbed.Your creative thoughts are very much appreciated.
Cheers!

Hello,
His lifelong friend had done a few months previously- and he had come within an arms length of reaching the end of the world but he didn't despair- he was indeed full of new plans- the conquest of Arabia.I think, however, his psyche did not permit the concept of despair or "giving up"- you only have to think of his behaviour in the desert to see that hope certainly sprung eternal in his breast. As he said during the revolt after the wars in India- It is a lovely thing to live with courage and die leaving an everlasting fame. I think that he surpassed a thousand times his own highest expectations.Best regards,Dean.

Indeed, yes, but...I am not asking for emotions; I am inquiring about his thoughts. What thoughts streamed through his mind, knowing his life was drawing to an end. Obviously, we all know he did not bother to identify an heir. Hmmm, what provoking thought triggered that? Picture this: you are Alexander, in his skin, and you have a vast political/martial/cultural empire, whose threads hold together because of you, and YOU are dying! Well, hmmmm?
Cheers!

Hi!
So, as you say...i'm 33 years old! I feel death over me! i'm conscious to have conquered something like the whole world (althougt i realized not to be a invincible god because i stopped my run at Iphasis, and i showed this by building only 12 altars to the 12 olympic gods, cutting me out as the 13th one)...
mmmhhh
You know, I was coming back from a victorious campaign where i had my first great trouble with the army, always faithful and loyal to me...while coming to Babilonia i knew that the people near Oxus, and other were set on fire and revolting! Now, i got to have a plan for my domain; i must show the big picture of my conquest, and give it a political stable setting! such an empire...this huge...can't survive if Macedons don't melt in a bigger, ecumenic culture (as Cyrus tried centuries ago among Medos and other Asians), so i organized a colossal wedding between my soldiers and "barbarian" brides! But now i must organize the reign more than culturally!...Wait...before, i ought to conquest the other side of the world to be a real "kosmoskrator", to say...i made many worlds one infinite empire! I projected a spedition against Cartagho, hoping that Rome will be a good ally to me!
Right now i feel i'm dying...leaving a warring "empire", still not organized, in the hands of a too young son. so that i gave my ring to Perdiccas for i see in him a good chief during the transition period, as long as my son will be the new king. Need is it (more than conquering the mediterranian part of the world): To give the power to somebody able enough to mantain firmly the status-quo of the empire, fighting against the centrifugal aspiration of the "satrapoi" i set on the central Asia territories, and ruling untill my son shall do it!...About me, it's likely a thought of Alexnader: looking at an empire in trouble for a tired, exausted military force (the only effective glue till now), and for the ever-growing revolts among the kings and satrapoi, all of them in a struggle to gain power after the fall of Achemenides! But, there's another point of view...maybe more romantic...Alexandros didn't care so much about fixing a clear stability upon his conquest. Many storicists belive that the nature of the king didn't inclined to stand still, instead going further to other exploits!
So...who can say what was blowing up in the head of that man, maybe too young for all this power? I just argue that, at the end, i'd be trying, if i was him, to nominate a successor who

Bravo! Applause! Well imagined, and it was great fun to read the vivid imagery and sharp humor.

Do you really think he believed he would die?
If he was rational enough to be alert, he was probably thinking of his next conquest, whether Carthage or not. And he was probably also quite disappointed still that he hadn't been able to continue through India. And most of all, he was still grieving terribly over the loss of his dear Hephaestion.

I believe that he had seen so much bloodshed, killing, slaugter, destruction, and corruption, that he wanted a united world free from all of the above. This was his real message in "The Contract of Love" 324BC in Opis. Regards!
