Alexander at Tyre

Post by jan »

Hello Sikander,

I do not know why it is that yahoo twice would not publish my comments about Tyre. I was responding to your post and twice it would not be sent.

We were discussing Tyre and I will keep this post focused on my point about Alexander's having crucified so many men there. This was in response to the number of men who had been building the towers and the causeway to create a way to the island. Because so many men had been killed and had had boiling oil poured over their chests and arms, I suspect that Alexander felt that he was quite justified to crucify the numbers of men who had resisted him. That is in the cause of retribution.

Now twice I tried to have this posted, but yahoo would not publish it. I am taking the chance that it will be posted here.

In addition I had also stated that all Tyre had had to do to avoid this defeat was to have permitted Alexander to pay respect to the Gods through prayer and sacrifice there. They would not let him do that so he took action against them.

I have to apologize now as yahoo did post my comments after all...sorry about bringing it here now.

However, again I will mention the article in the Australian magazine Digger, an archaeological magazine, that I found today at Barnes and Noble. Daryn Graham has written a two page description of a find in Afghanistan, (Bactria region) that appears to shed more light on the personality and character of Alexander. This is a fascinating article discussing the mass marriages that took place in Bactria and Alexander's falling in love with Roxanne. It also compares the find to that of the Rosetta Stone in Egypt , I am hoping that this discovery will be further discussed as more is learned.
