I'm writing a paper and presentation on why Alexander was a hero. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Hopefully the due date of your paper will allow you the time to investigate this yourself so that you may draw your own conclusions on that theme. I can suggest two sources that are succint (my favorites): modern writer - J.F.C Fuller's "The Generalship of Alexander" and Quintus Curtius' "History of Alexander". Both will help you. Personally, he has been a hero to me for many years, but I do not want to influence your research. Good luck!

start from "what a hero is"

In my opinion you've to start from the concept of a hero. Hero is someone who is collocated between the condition of a man and that of a god. The prototype of hero is Gilgamesh, the half-god, king of the Sumerian city of Uruk. Gilgamesh was able to bring to an end some enterprises, but the final outcome was a bad one. He was not a full god, so he wasn't able to reach immortality. Hero can only be excellent among the othe men. The Greek Herakles has many common points with Gilgamesh. Alexander was a hero because he reached the greatest successes among men, but he obviously was not immortal. Alexander continues to live in our memory, exactly like Gilgamesh' fame lasted in Mesopotamy and Herakles' mythe among Hellenes and especially Thebans. A hero is an "itinerans" character who accomplishes his enterprises travelling every part of the known world, reaching sometimes the borders. Gilgamesh travels to Lebanon to fight against the Kumbaba monster, Herakles crosses almost every part of the world, Alexander... we all know what he did! A hero always has a companion. Gilgamesh has Emkidu, Herakles has his "auriga" Iolaos, Alexander has Hephaestio, a hetairos and a lover (a homosexual love was also present between Herakles and Iolaos!). This is what I think about heroes.

What is the Comparison between Alexander the Great and Sundiata.
From my ressources Sundiata became King of Mali after he return from Exile. He suffered a great deal during his exile.
But I really cannot see what is the Comparison between those. I am just curious about who he is(Alexander the Great) . Why did Sundiata was compared to him. What influence did he have on Africa.
Thank you.
