Perception on the Greatest Battles

Post by kennyxx »

Companions hi.Through my reeadings and studies. If Its Boxing ,Singers the Greatest leaders etc.I have Sugar Ray Robinson.Elvis and indeed Alexander.I revisited the Barttle of Alesia and have to basically egree that the battle must come pretty much to the top and equal anything Alexander.Rirst we have Caesar with 40000 legionaries encircling the Gaul army of over 60000 at the top of a hill in afortress. Then we get an other Gaulforce of numbers 200 000 for which Caesar builds another stockade to protect him.Now for 40 000 Romans in foreign terrain and to be outnumbered in any case says Caesra had balls of a Rhino. I for one and knowing Alexander cant work out how this can be done. I recall Alexander been trapped in the Balkan Campaigns but I doubt the bumbers Caesar had pressing his but.I do know it took one final push and charge with Caesar himself leading to make the break for the Romans. Was It luck timing discipline or Caerasr alone that won this probably number one battle. Would Alexander have pulled it off and it reinforces what I have always maintained only a Roman army with Caesar at its head could be equal to Alexander . No other.kenny

Kenny , Good point although Julias was not facing a proffessional Army and the Romans had did have superior armor and weaponry. As for the worlds greatest boxer ,though this might not be the popular choice I will give it to Rocky Marciano.Afterall like ATG he was undefeated.

Jim HailOff the topic I always Rated the Rock but Clay in his prime I feel would pop his head off. Like Alexander . Ray Robinson fought them all and many weights. He only lost the Fuller fight through shear exhaustion. Even the ref got carried out.Now Alexander was a Sugar Ray. Fought all comers variations and hundreds of fights.Marciano was a little too small for later heavyweights.Kenny
