Hail CompanionsIn the UK at the moment were going through a little celebration ob a British Military Great and leader.Horatio Nelson and Trafalgar week. The programes show a lot of similarities between the great leaders as this and Alexander.Nelson also had the charisma and total adoration of his soldiers and the funeral prsesion for Nelson really reminded me of the scale of Hepheastion only Hepheastions funeral never held a nation in grief. Hepheastions funeral was basically Alexanders wish alone. The whole Napoleonic wars bears with Alexander.Napoleons fascination and some people comparisons to Alexander as a general. Napoleon was no where near. He abandoned armies all overe the world and lost hundreds of thousands the only comparison is that Napoleon had the charisma. Once Wellington understood him he knew how to take him and he did. Wellington mopped up behind him as Scipio did with Hannibal.
Anyway I say to the English raise your glasses and Salute Nelson a true great Commander worthy to dine with Alexander.Kenny

Rah,I don't know if you are interested, but in New Zealand there is a similar story about the Anzacs (Australia, NZ) at Gallipoli (in the Dardanelles) in 1915. Their commanders misinterpreted the messages from the British, and sent the troops ashore in the wrong place. The troops suffered heavy casualties (more than 10,000 Anzacs dead), but were ordered onwards nonetheless. The British and French also suffered high casualties. The NZ soldiers failed to take the peninsula, but their brave and futile struggle prompted a British General to say that they were like "lions led by donkeys".A little off the subject, perhaps. My apologies. To Nelson! Truly, a great commander.Elpi
