The next programme in this series by Adam Hart Davies is on the Ancient Greeks.http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/programmes ... ndex.shtml
on BBC2, this Wed at 8pm. These programmes are fun. Also, did anyone see "Around the World in 80 treasures?" I saw some - lots of fascinating places, many in the middle east. I wish I had watched more.Lidna

Re: What the ancients did for us.
Hi Linda,Yep, I'm a big fan of Adam Hart Davies. I've only seen a couple of the "Ancients" series - the Mesopotamians and the Egyptians, but they were up to AHD's usual quality.I saw Dan Cruikshank's last episode - Uzbekistan etc. I kept reminding myself that Samarkand was Marakanda ... and of course it was fab to see Persepolis.I believe he covers the Levant and some (at least) of North Africa in the next episode.ATBMarcus

I did see the Persopolis programme - amazing that those reliefs would have been gilded and painted. I like them the way they are now - minimalist. All those Scythians, Medians and Egyptians, still proudly carrying their gifts to the long dead Great King.I can't remember what Dan said about Alexander - something about having an aberration and destroying Persopolis, which was out-of-character for him (I think).Linda
