Political; Colour Casting

Post by iskander_32 »

Hail Folks I ficked up on a point about colour casting. The biggest example of miscolour casting to please the populace public, Has to be the depiction of Jesus Christ in the movies, Always a pair haired corcasian wher in Actual fact he would have been typical Palastinian dark wooly beard etc, There was once a programe on the subject they recreated Jesus akin to the people at the time He looked nothing Like Max Von Snyder.By the way Napoleon was only 5.2 tall Alexander only a little taller, somethings to be said fgor us smaller 5,6 guys I guess.Kenny

Hi Kenny,I suspect that the casting of Jesus in films has never been done with the intention of 'pleasing the public' in the way I think you mean. Consider how Jesus has been portrayed in art since the Middle Ages, which created a stereotype. Whether this was right or wrong, casting in feature films (and TV) has tended to cast Jesus to look like the 'familiar' face, which by the 20th century was so completely ingrained that I'm sure it never even occurred to anyone to challenge it.Having said that, I don't know what a 1st century AD Rabbi would have looked like, physiologically. All the bestMarcusPS: Anyway, Shakespeare started it all with Othello. The Moors were North African and therefore more of Semitic appearance (pace Hannibal), yet Othello has always been portrayed as if he were black.

I have to tell you something very interesting that was shown on the news last night. Some man had a dental x-ray and on it is an image of a man which many think looks like Jesus. Ever since the woman sold her grilled cheese which had a picture of a woman who she claims is the Virgin Mary, images are showing up everywhere! So the x-ray was shown on local t.v. and will probably be on e-bay soon too!

Luis, Kind regards. You are correct. There are three 'races' of modern human. A better word than race would be sub-speices. The term race was discarded by biologists due to its connations with racism. There are negroids, mongoloids and caucasoids. It is likely that caucasoids evolved from cro-magnon man, and this sub speices incorporates, as you say, europeans, middle easterners, those fom the indian sub continent et al.However, the difference in phenotype between caucasoids is immense, as can clearly be visualised. Despite Jesus being a caucasian, he most definately would not have been blue eyed, pale white skin and blonde. That combination of phenotypes just does not natuarally exist in the middle east. And I doubt that his ancestors were from scandanavia.sincerely, yassar
