"Searching for Alexander" == sold!

Post by ruthaki »

Wow! I sent out my article "Searching for Alexander" yesterday and today got an email from the local newspaper ed. saying "sold!" He was delighted to get it and will run it late in Nov. to co-incide with the movie. It's a travel story covering all the places associated with Alexander in Northern Greece (and a side-bar mentioning how to get to Chaironea and a couple of other places I didn't include in the 'tour').

Thanks for all the messages, folks! I appreciate it. Keeps a writer like me inspired.
The original article, written as a kind of 'thanks' to the Greeks who had paid my way to Greece to do research back in '93 was first published inthe Montreal Gazette in '94 and is more politically slanted as it was written during the time of the Macedonian debate. You can see it on my website
http://www.dreamwater.org/ruthaki
I have since made the same trip several times and of course things have changed since then, so I rewrote it. The first newspaper said it was 'too academic'. So I rewrote again and made it more 'personal'. Also added a lot of new things. I could have put more in but today's publications want brevity so I had to cut lots out.
When it's published I'm not sure but it might go online and I'll let you know if it does.
I'm hoping that it might also generate some interest in my novel which I am struggling to finish as soon as possible given the timely aspects of the subject material.

THANKS AGAIN. Now, slightly off-topic, but I just spend the afternoon discussing my 2-act Sappho play "House of the Muses" with the director of the playwright's Centre. It has been accepted for a playwright's workshop there. I am thrilled. It means I'll be working with professionals, dramaturges etc.
A big job ahead to pull it off and I mustn't stray too far from Alexander's world. At least it's in the same vicinity!! Cheers, ruthaki
