How many sisters did Alexander had? Cause a city, named Thessaloniki is bearing the name of alexanders sister...but wich one ?best regards, Jakob
Re: alexanders sisters
He only had one sister, Cleopatra. However he had a number of half-sisters, and Thessalonike was one. She was raised by his mother Olympias. Cassander married her in order to justify his claim to the Kingship after he had killed Olympias. He named the city after her. She produced three sons for him, one of whom killed the other, and the surviving one was killed by Lysimachus as I recall. She also had another son who died from disease.

Seems to me Thessaloniki was murdered by one of her sons. Must check my research notes. And of course Kleopatra ended up exiled in Syria after her attempt to marry Perdikkas failed (when he got assassinated). She was eventually murdered (I believe, on Kassandros' orders).
Re: alexanders sisters
Yes she was murdered by one of her sons (all named Philip, Antipater and Alexander as I recall)and Cleopatra was murdered by Antigonus.

Re: alexanders sisters
I'm just doing a time-line now about political events that happened from 319 (Antipater's death) up to the end of the dynasty. According to my research notes, Thessaloniki was founded in 317 BC which is quite a few years before Olympias' death. So I assume Kassandros married Thessaloniki around the time the city was founded as that was apparantly one of the 'perks' in marrying him.
I'd appreciate it if anyone has a date of when he married her. It's been quite a challenge sorting out the times of events as there is so often conflicting information. Thanks in advance, ruthaki
