Before we lost the plot completely...Hello,Was just wondering, after reading about the argument that nearly ended in bloodshed between Hephaestion and Craterus. Supposedly the two companions who were loved the most by Alexander. It seems that Hephaestion also had clashes with Eumenes and I was wondering what you thought about Hephaestion regarding this- if maybe it is an indication of the nature of the man- perhaps a bit tumultous and uneasy to get along with.I suppose, truth told, Hephaestion must have been the source of some jealousy- did he and Alexander not run around the tombs of Achilles and Patroclus in Asia Minor?Just wondering...Best regards,
Dean.

Re: Hephaestion- Craterus
Craterus does not appear to have been able to tolerate another number 2 other than himself. He was instrumental in the downfall of Philotas. We shouldn't all look to Hephaistion as any more quarrelsome then the rest of the men. Chares and Eumenes found themselves both reporting to Hephastion in the end, and I doubt that did anything for either of their egos since they both prviously reported to the King directly and Chares certainly appears to have gotten a good number of digs in via Plutarch.
