Re: the best site for info on movie
Sorry, if you have trouble accessing, I found this journal from altavista.com looking for script for Alexander movie. This site tells about the filming of the elephant's and a wound that Alexander takes. This is really a fascinating description of the filming done in Thailand, and I am sure you will like reading it.
Re: the best site for info on movie
Well, I keep getting page cannot be displayed when I hit the link. At altavista I asked the same question: how can I find a script for alexander the movie and I get four responses. The vkm site is in gray starting with the warner bros. teaser. Very interesting.
Re: the best site for info on movie
Hi,I am a newbie here, who has been a lurker for quite awhile. I like this site and I find it very informative. When you asked the question about the best sites for the movie, I have found several that have been very good. The Val Kilmer (VKM) site is a good one. I have that one bookmarked, myself. The sites listed are for general information about the film. Maybe some of you have come across them, but I find they are some of the better ones on the web (sorry if I am repeating any information that has already been mentioned on this forum).Heres are the best ones I have come across and have bookmarked (these are not in any particular order):1.techcomforces.com-They have an Alexander Countdown. They do exclusively Alexander news (they also did a Troy Countdown, as well). A very well constructed and informative site.2. Comingsoon.net-General movie news. They have a movie page for Alexander and usually have the latest news about the movie, as it becomes available. Good site.3. Dark Horizons-General Movie news like comingsoon.net. Also a good site.4. The Latino Report & Rope of Silicon-Both are general movie sites that keep up with Alexander news. The Latino Report is especially good.5. Internet movie Database (imdb.com)-They have an Alexander page with a cast list and details about the film. They also have a message board, as well.Message Boards that have news about Alexander:If you want to take a look at other message boards that have news and information on Alexander, these are a few good ones:1. The Dreamworks fansite Gladiator Bulletin Board at http://www.dreamworksfansite.com/gladbb. There is a lot of conversation and news about the film and some history of Alexander thrown in. They have a forum exclusively for the film among other forums, there.2. Alexander-the-great.co.uk/- A message board exclusively dedicated to the film. They have information and news, as well.3. The Colin Farrell Fansite- It is dedicated to Colin Farrell and his films, but it has a lot of up to date information, articles and alerts on it's Alexander thread. Those are some of the better sites for people who are interested in the film. I hope this is helpful. Countingdown.com is another one. It is similar to Comingsoon & Dark Horizons.Sorry to go one so long, especially for a first post. Please keep up the good work on this site. It is one of the best sites on the web for information about Alexander. Thanks,Dara
Re: the best site for info on movie
Sorry, the highlighted link to the Dreamworks Fansite should be without the period at the end.Dara
Re: the best site for info on movie
I forgot to mention one other site. The site for Vangelis, who composed the soundtrack for Alexander. The link is: http://www.elsew.com/data/latest.htmThere is a three minute sample of the soundtrack on line that you can listen to.janet, the Thailand set reports that you found were originally posted at the Rope of Silicon website. If you are interested, I think they may have a few more similar reports in their archives. There was also a report at Ain't It Cool News from a person who toured the set in London (back in December 03) and gave a description of it. If you do a search, I think you could find that one, as well.Dara
Re: the best site for info on movie
Thanks, Dara, for all that information. I really enjoyed the news from Thailand. I just read on the Jason O'Brien website for Oliver Stone about the soundtrack and listened to it too. It is too beautiful for words! It is listed there as alexandersoundtrack.com.I am still wondering if Alexander recovers from this wound that he suffered, or if that is supposed to be his death scene. Left me up in the air on that one. Thanks so much for all the websites as I appreciate that so much, and welcome! Great post!
Re: the best site for info on movie
Hi janet and thanks for the welcome. That is very kind of you!You are most welcome for the information. I was more than happy to post it. I post over on the Dreamworks Gladiator site on the Alexander forum (not an endorsement, just a mention) and we have been keeping up with the news on the film for quite awhile now. Its going to get even more interesting in the months ahead. You are correct, the site for the Alexander soundtrack is alexandersoundtrack.com. It is on the Sony Classical music site. That is what I have as well. The link from the Vangelis site I posted goes right to the same site. Also, I think the person who reported from the Thailand set was a bit confused. That scene is supposed to be the seige of Multan in India (where Alexander was severely injured), which was not Alexander's death scene. I know the film covers all the way to Alexander's actual death. I don't know if it goes beyond that or not. I guess we have to wait and see on that one.Also...is Jason o'Brien's website "The Oliver Stone Message Board" by chance? Thanks again for the warm welcome!Regards,Dara

Re: the best site for info on movie
Hi Jan,As far as, "I am still wondering if Alexander recovers from this wound that he suffered, or if that is supposed to be his death scene." I believe the clown that wrote that piece is playing off of poor scuttlebutt hence producing bad journalism which is everywhere, I hope I'm right. It appears to me the end of the trailer shows Alexander and friends walking through the Makran desert as you and I both know that was no cake walk in the park, though I'm sure they traveled by night. I think Dara, excuse the expression, is dead on!Regards, Andrew
Re: the best site for info on movie
Thanks Andrew (I love the expression, by the way).Well all I can say about the Thailand report is:Extras....you can't live with them, you can't live without them.I think it was a "historically" challenged extra who wrote that piece (at least when it comes to Alexander. But then again, I am no great expert, myself) and didn't have all his facts straight.Just a quick note...the Official Alexander film site from Warner Brother has been updated and is up and running. Here is the link: http://alexanderthemovie.warnerbros.com/Check it out! It's really looking good.Regards, Dara
I don't like the soundtrack
I just listened to the soundtrack and I thought it was awful. It's far too Western - maybe that's what Oliver Stone wants - Alexander and his gang riding into town with Darius as the Sheriff - but it doesn't seem Macedonian, let alone Persian.A much better soundtrack is at
http://www.notmyidea.com/persepolis/It has the romance of the East, Roxane's beauty and her dancing; Darius' dignity; the mighty empire that Alexander set torch to; it gives a feel of what he destroyed. Now, if someone could tell me what that is, and how I can record it, I'll be gratefulSusan

Re: I don't like the soundtrack
Quite agree with you Susan re.reminds me of the ol' classic western 'The Magnificent Seven' staring Yul Brennan... even a touch of the old Malborough cigarette commercials, for those old enough to remember.
I do like much the music from the link you provided, very nice indeed

Re: I don't like the soundtrack
I was not crazy about Vangelis when I heard he was going to do the soundtrack, either. But, I am willing to give it a chance. It's only a 3 minute sample, so I'd like to hear what the rest sounds like.Just my 2 cents.Dara

Re: I don't like the soundtrack
No!..No Chance whatsoever! Off with his head!!
Only kidding; your perfectly right Dara, should give him a chance.Hopefully he introduces some Dorian and Phrygian mode pieces through out the movie!

Re: I don't like the soundtrack
Actually, I didn't mind the Vangelis excerpt too much - its intent is obviously to portray the "epic sweep" of events. Though I did prefer the music from the Persepolis site, it would hardly be suitable for, say, a major battle scene between the Macedonians and the Persians! I'll also wait and see how the rest of the Vangelis soundtrack turns out before passing judgement. By the way - are you TeacherDara from the Gladiator forum? I've been lurking there for quite a while - found the link through Jeanne's LiveJournal. It's a great collective source for information on the movie and fun to read. :-)Best regards,Linda Ann
