Kandalos village was destroyed by an earthquake!
"Helios, the myth tells us, becoming enamoured of Rhodos [daughter of Poseidon & Halia], named the island Rhodes after her and caused the water which had overflowed it to disappear. But the true explanation is that while in the first forming of the world the island was still like mud and soft, the sun dried up the larger part of its wetness and filled the land with living creatures, and there came into being the Heliadai (sons of Helios), who were named after him, seven in number, and other peoples who were, like them, sprung from the land itself. In consequence of these events the island was considered to be sacred to Helios, and the Rhodians of later times made it their practis to honour Helios above all the other gods, as the ancestor and founder from whom they were descended. His seven sons were Okhimos, Kerkaphos, Makar, Aktis, Tenages, Triopas and Kandalos.", Diodorus Siculus 5.56.3 and according to this site: http://www.gov.mk/kultura/Lilcik_Antiuity.htm, Kandalos was the Macedonian god of war.Kandalos village in north of Tehran and south of Capsian sea in Mazandaran province (west of ancient Hyrcania) was one of the most ancient villages in Iran, Plutarch says that apprehending the Macedonians would be weary of pursuing the war, Alexander left the greater part of them in this region, and having with him in Hyrcania the choice of his men only. Unfortunately a strong earthquake shook Iran yesterday and some villages in Zanos valley were destroyed, it is said that the epicentre was exactly Kandalos village (between Chalos and Baladeh), so many villagers of Kandalos who were famous for their blonde hairs and blue eyes in Iran, were killed! Some photos of Kandalos and other villages (before earthquake): http://www.kojur.com/aks-makan-didani-k ... 01723.phpA girl: http://members.cox.net/allempires/Irangirl.jpg
