Did Alexander want to build a tomb for Darius III?
It is said that when Darius III died, Alexander sent him body to Persepolis to be buried in the royal tombs, like the kings before him but did he order to build a tomb for him too? Why was it not finished?Meanwhile Tomb of Darius III is in Persepolis but the Achaemenid Persian royal tombs are in Naghsh-e Rostam not in Persepolis.http://oi.uchicago.edu/OI/MUS/PA/IRAN/P ... 72dpi.html

I wouldn't be surprised if Alexander ordered the tomb to be built, unless Darius had already had it started before he died. After all, he treated Darius honourably as a defeated enemy, so why should he not expect a tomb to be constructed. As to why it wasn't finished... possibly because of Alexander's own death. Once he was dead, I can't imagine that his successors cared too much to finish of Darius' tomb - they were too busy slugging it out for the empire. All the bestMarcus

I think Alexander did want to build a tomb for Darius because Darius was given the same funeral as his forefathers. It was said that Alexander wanted to build a tomb for his father Philip that was to be bigger than any pyramid but his death stopped him from carrying it out, perhaps that is why darius doesnt have a tomb?
