I've a question..
How many battles did Alexander take part in
during his life? Can we include his conquest
of the other Greek states and northern tribes
prior to his expedition?

Re: Alexanders battles
Hi Pete,I think there's no reason why one shouldn't include the battles Alexander was involved in prior to becoming king. It does depend, however, of what we consider to be a 'battle', as opposed to a skirmish (and I don't know the answer to that).I reckon the 'battles' as such would include:Against the Mardoi (around 340BC - although we don't know if it was a full-on battle)
Chaeronea (338BC)
At least two proper battles in Thrace and Illyria (again, depending on what we consider to be battles rather than skirmishes)
Granicus (334BC)
Issus (333BC)
Gaugamela (331BC)
Persian Gates (331/0BC)
Against the Scythians (329/8BC)
Hydaspes (326BC)And then there were various engagements on his way down the Indus, which might be variously described as battles, skirmishes or pure massacres...All the bestMarcus
