Is there anyone left of the Army of Alexander the Great?!!

Post by Takei »

Hi there, I am new to this site, I was looking for some sites about Alexander the Great, because iI heard that there is some poeple still living in the middle east area, whose ancestors were soldiers in the army of Alexander the great. I want to know if there is any study about this. I believe here I will find the answer from someone here. Thank you for your help.

These are the Kalash people, an indigenous group in northern Pakistan, Chitral area. They themselves appear to support the claim that Alexander's officer Seleucos is believed to be their ancestor. However, fact and fiction are mixed up here. The story about the origins of the Kalash are believed to be a myth by many. As 2300 years have passed by since Alexander visited this part of the world, and peoples move, migrate, mix, etcetera, it is impossible to prove or support this claim from a scientific point of view.It is a matter of what to want to be the truth.Regards -

The Kalas people who live in Pakistan, believe to
Zeus and have many greek words in their vocabulary.
They claim that they come from Alexander. Some Greeks who live with Kalas, know better, but I don't know how to find them.

Transcript of a program on the Kalash people:
http://www.maknews.com/html/kalash_abc.htmlAs expected, there already are some Greek citizens with the Kalash people telling them who they are.A couple of quotes from the transcription:"They are building in their own way. But I think that's not fair.
I think they should build this like Kalasha, the real Kalasha."
- Din Mohammed, Kalash School Headmaster"History says that (Kalash are descended from the ancient Greeks)
but actually old people, they don't think that."

We have extensively looked into this Kalash issue in the past.
I find it highly improbable that these people are descendants of AtG's soldiers, but I also see no harm if the Kalash believe so (or even if they pretend to believe so). When it comes to the similarity of some of Kalashi words to Greek, let's not forget that both Greek and Kalashi are Indo-European languages and they do share common (but distant) origins. Same goes for Persian, Latin, English etc...Here're some related links:
