Sorry Folks I just dont go with the idead Alexanderwas ill and out of his head.He was only 32 and really in his prime considerind his veterand were all over 50 and gone through the same ordeal and were strong and tough as oxes.His mind was very much together as he was focusing and organising new and massive undertakings to take Arabia and the west,the arrow wound really was no handicapped he was well enough to march through Gerdrosia.Fair enough he was upset by Hepheastion but Alexander was a driven man and im sire he was up to the job, to a Macedonian of that time 32 was in his prime.regards

I totally understand where you're coming from. The problem is that we just don't know enough about what was going on.After all, plenty of people who appear to be in excellent health, don't abuse their bodies etc. etc. can suddenly die of surprise illnesses etc. while others, who drink and smoke all their lives carry on until they are well into their 70s and 80s.Therefore I can completely believe that Alexander, who did, after all, suffer some horrible wounds and, I agree, appear to recover perfectly from them, might suddenly succumb to something that appears quite innocuous... while his 60 year old vets who happened not to be in the "wrong place at the wrong time", as it were, carry on in excellent health.All the bestMarcus

MarcusI agree with you and your theory does hold water people do just sucumb.However it has been said that Hepheastions Death and ALexanders are unrelated as they were months a part, However the deaths were similar and I have always maintainecit was not good enough for Alexander to be killed they both had to go and it really doesnt matter how far apart they are as long as they are dead, Hepheastiondid prove himself worthy as a commander and also had to go.You are probably right all of it is guess work but I would be confident if his body were to be found there would be traces of poison in him.Regards

You are really obsessed with this, I see. An ordinary man would feel the effects of a breathing problem, which is what the lungs are all about. But Alexander is no ordinary man as you have noted his ability to recover and to cross the desert with few ill effects. Again, he is assisted ably by the gods who love him for his devotion to them.Apparently, the gods who giveth also taketh away. Didn't his Indian fakir tell him he would meet him in Babylon? It doesn't matter whether he was healthy or unhealthy (as that depends upon which of the storytellers is relating the story) when the gods decide, the gods decide. My favorite story is told by Curtius that his body was so well preserved that he looked like a god. Doesn't sound like poisoning to me unless it was arsenic.

I totally agree by the time atg great reached Babylon he was in his prime physically and mentally ready to go, If he was finished the Gedrosian desert would have killed him not relaxing and planning in babylon
