2003 Alexander
As much as writers are elevated by the sheer immensity on this subject of human endevouar, movie makers now have found the lustful thrill this peace of history tells. It seems Alexander has entered yet a new age. I hope that the forthcoming movies will have based themselves upon authors such as Robin Lane Fox- or others if so accurate there may be. Although Alexander has not been a hero, for he slaughtered too many of man's lives, he has been an example of how much life can be if only we make it as true as our soul intents. He was beyond doubt a genius, and he was certainly cruel- but far beyond these things, he was a romantic with a drive and compassion for everything new and not yet discovered by his kin. Can a movie ever remake this freilty of soul? I wonder. If this movie turns out to be true to the lives involved in this epos, than it will have to be one of the greatest movies of all times.

Not a hero because he 'slaughtered too many lives'?
If you read carefully about him, you'll see he also spared a great number, including the compassion he showed for Darius's family, and how he included Persians in his army etc etc. Warriors, unfortunately, have to kill, or they wouldn't be warriors. Remember, that was hand-to-hand combat. No scuds missles, poison gas, or other more modern ways of exterminating thousands of people at one time. He never dropped a nuclear bomb on any cities, or wantonly destroyed unless it was highly provoked. He was on a conquest and he succeeded brilliantly. Yes, he was a hero!I doubt Hollywood will do him justice. I believe they are likely to use more of the 'romance legends' than the true stories to make an exciting epic of a film. But we'll see...I'm skeptical, but I am also hopeful that it might do him justice.

The reel versus the real. Movies are just for entertainment. Maybe a few sixth graders will find something to like in Alexander, if the actor is the right actor.I just saw the Last Samurai with Tom Cruise. I believe that had Cruise been chose to play Alexander, he at least would have given him the respect that he is due. I don't think other actors ever know enough about the subject to do that for them.
