ALEXANDER'S 1ST TUITOR?

Post by D.HATGISTAVROU »

GREETINGS COMPANIONS,
ALEXANDER'S FIRST TUITOR WAS A MAN NAMED LEONIDAS. NOT MUCH WAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS MAN. THE SOURCES SAY KING PHILIP HAD LEONIDAS TAKE ALEXANDER AWAY FROM HIS MOTHER AT AN EARLY AGE. HE TOUGHENED ALEXANDER BY MAKING HIM SLEEP ON THE GROUND, WRESTLING, 1 DAILY MEAL, AND NO MOTHERLY LOVE. HOW LONG DID THIS GO ON? WHERE WAS HE FROM? IN THE TIME-LIFE VIDEO "THE SEARCH FOR ALEXANDER"
THIS IS ALL THAT IS SAID. ANY COMMENTS. REGARDS!

I believe he was a relative (wasn't he an uncle or something, perhaps distant rel. of Olympias?) And I think he had been trained in the Spartan methods and therefore his tutelage was rather harsh, meant to toughen the young Alexander up.

Yes, Leonidas was a relative of Olympias and he trained Alexander's body and mind in Spartan way. In brief, he gave everything he could to insure that his mother won't spoil ATG with any luxuries while he was young :-)Regards,
