New here...

Post by neneh »

This is terribly off topic, but I just wanted to say hello to everyone as I'm new at this forum (I signed up earlier today). I've read a few of your messages and I'm very impressed at the respect you all seem to have for each other (most of the time), and also of course at how much you all seem to know about your subject. I was half-expecting to have found yet another site for reincarnated Alexanders and Hephaistions, but I stand happily corrected.Kindest regards,Neneh

Welcome to the site, Neneh. We like to think that we are a nice bunch (most of the time), and we are always glad to get new companions, so I hope you'll join in as much as you can!I've always been pleased myself by the lack of "reincarnated Alexanders and Hephaistions"... but don't ask too closely, in case you find out what we all do behind closed doors... :-)All the bestMarcus

Greetings Neneh,And welcome to the site. I think we are all justifiably proud of how long this site has been on-line without succumbing to the typical "shout each other down with insults and foul language" syndrome. This has ensured Pothos remains on on school lists, being considered a viable citable site for school projects due to the quality of the knowledge of the contributors. You will find much of value, depending on the subject matter, from Nick W., Tre, Susan, Linda, Karl, Halil, Andrew, Nicator, Aengus, Marcus, Polixsena, Linda Ann, Stavros, Yiannis, Maciek and others (forgive me if I left out names).. each brings a level of expertise to their favourite subject. And if these people cannot give you a logical, well-reasoned, accurate answer, or a discussion of theoretical possibilities based in facts, they will almost always- no, make that always, come up with a source! Again, welcome aboard!Regards,
Sikander

Hi Anna -Welcome aboard. You're a not off topic. To comfort you: we don't believe ourselves to be reincarnations of Alexander or Hephaistion. Me - for example - I am convinced I am the reincarnation of Bessus.Yes, indeed, that is a heavy burden to carry with you all your life. Please enjoy the Forum. Feel free to post anything you'd like.Best regards -
Nick

Hi Anna,Funny you should say such a thing. Whether anyone believes in reincarnation or not, believing in some of the past life of Alexander as written in histories has done me some good this week. Imagine how Phillip, if reincarnated, would die and be buried has helped me more than you know. Thinking of Philip's tomb in Vergina helped to stabilize me as I fondly reminded my mother that cremation is the Greek way, and that the pyre for Hephaestion is a model. So knowing Alexander has helped me a lot! Thanks to all of you for your contributions.

Well, I've never thought of myself as a 'reincarnation' of anyone in particular than perhaps someone who was lurking on the sidelines, recording all the dramatic events. Welcome to the site. It's not only friendly but very informative. Ruthaki
