Alexander's flag

Post by romaneyes »

Okay, now I don't know where I read this (I think that it was on one of the up coming movie pages) but Alexander's army had a flag? or a standard, such as the roman armies did? where could I get a discription of it? I'm particularly interested to know if the Companions had a standard. Thanks,Luc

Hi Romaneyes,
According to Arrian, after the death of Hephaestion, his regiment continued to be called the Hephaestion regiment and an image of him continued to be carried before it. Whether this image was on a flag/banner, or some sort of statue I don't know. I would imagine it probably was an image of his face on a banner though, seems more practical.cheer!

Did they not have a banner with a dark blue background and the star of Macedon? And I also believe reading somewhere that there was another emblem which I can't remember exactly.
