NEW pics from the set-I'd say the best so far...

Post by anamarija »

Here they are!http://www.thezreview.co.uk/news/news2518.htmColin looks amasing,I love the gold.Where would you guys say it's situated coz' when you look closely rose petals are on the floor so it must be some kind of celebration. And Hephaistion is riding on his left but no one's at his right.Plus,he already has the scar on his arm(but I can't remember where he got that).Anyway,I love the pics!I'm really excited about the movie! The only thing I really don't get,if it won't be out 'till November, why release the pics already?

on of the pictures is the famous wall frieze from Persepolis so it mst be Persepolis. I can't beleive how bad the equipment is. Is rather depressing when we consider the whole package. A blonde Alexander, Art Garfunkle as Ptolemy, Sarissas the size of small trees, a script that look like a Mills and Boon Novel. Maybe the 1947 Movie will be considered a classic after this one.

Re: NEW pics - Babylon?

Looking at the blue friezes, I would say that this is Alexander's entry to Babylon - after Gaugamela. The motives on the walls are not Persian style, I would say - so not Persepolis.(I am not totally impressed, but they tried to do a nice job on the helmets. If you know the Osprey military books you may notice that they copied many of them straight from the drawings/reconstructions in that book - which are in turn based on the Alexander sarcophagus etc. I like the way they shaped the Companion cavalry helmets.)Regards -

Well, i don't think it looks "amazing", but! It's really the best so far.For the first time i've got the "right" feeling from those stills. Maybe that'll be the overall feeling of the movie, after all.No, really, much better than the former pictures.
Thank you very much, Lane. :)But... Am i the only one who wonders why the make up artists turned Colin into blonde but haven't paid the slightest attention to the other parts of his appearance? Like...the nose?

IMDb says it was originally planned for November 2004, but they will probably be happy with a Xmas 2004 release (mid-December 2004).Regards -

I liked the pictures as well. But I think that they made Alexander look like Calligula :-)They used Phrygian helmets (used mainly by Ionians) for the footsoldiers and typical Boeotian helmets for the cavalry.
Although the "Pilos" helmet was also very much in use in Alexander's army.

Greetings,
I know this makes me "odd man out", but the more I look at the photos, the more worried I get. I know it is too much to expect historical accuracy, especially from the particular directors involved in these movies, but the photos so far just feel like sand in my boots- irritating Just don't get a strong positive feel from the scenes so far.. so much is just not "right" ... from the actors selected (male and female)to the synopsis to the costuming, things are niggling at my mind about this movie... I think I will have to view it as though it were about a *different* Alexander and friends, time and place

Sikander

And I am not even going to *start* on the tack and the obvious saddles underneath- I admit it- I had hoped for more, for better...

I think you are right, Sikander, it will be a different Alexander to the one we all imagine (and we will all be different from each other, as well...).I suspect the plot will be clunky, but the costumes look magnificent. These photos look like they were influenced by the paintings of Alexander entering Babylon, by Le Brun, in The Louvre, I think. Jeanne R-Z has a detail from one on her site:http://home.earthlink.net/~mathetria/images.htmlLeto is dressed in almost the same way. Alexander in these is a very pastoral figure - soft and angelic-looking, almost. Farrell looks very shiny. Both H and A have scars on their arms. H was at Guagemala, wasn't it. It also looks like they are making a lot of Cassander's role (Rys Myers).

The Costumes

..are part of what is bothering me. The Pearly King with Coins outfit was distracting (and I *know* that necklace, I just have to recall where I saw it- it is part of what I *don't* like about that photo); the chitons are.. well, enough on those!.. the helmets.. I am trying to see this as a different person, place, time in order to try to look past the errors!
If the script was better (and I hope I am wrong) I could overlook the exterior aspects a bit more, but I fear a poor script and Stone's interpretation of history coupled with the visual impact- I just have to keep a different approach.I realize everyone has a view of ATG; I just had hoped for better- when I read who was directing both bio pics, I kept hoping I was wrong.. still do- but I am not going to anticipate this movie with much zest! .. I would rather have *no* ATG movie than one that leaves a bad aftertaste,, so I am *still* hoping I am wrong!!!Maybe the scenery will be magnificent.. I expect the battle scenes will be dramatic.. don't look forward at all to Stone's personal interpretation of ATG and friends..
Regards,
Sikander
