macedonians different to the greeks. they had different marriages, conventions, etc... etc.. you say.e.g. take modern greece, let alone ancient greece. culture is a learned belief. but even in culture, there are subcultures that still fall under the same umbrella. for instance, a marriage in modern day Crete has its own rituals to a marriage conducted in Cyprus, Lefkada or Macedonia. these rituals can have differences between villages in the same area. same goes for costumes, dances, social gatherings even the greek language has minor differences, etc... however they are all greeks falling under the same umbrella. the ancients were spread around a the hellenic boundary's making these differences more eviedent as they argued for control of greece.if they were not greek where did they originate from? what did they speak. who did they conquer the persians for? foreigners would not do this for the glory of ancient greece. cheersstavros

I meant about all the members of this forum... Members of this forum speak English because the English language was developed and spread via colonization by the British peoples .Thus an American of non British ancestry became absorbed into a society that was an offshoot of British civilization and learned English since that was the language of the land.While it is true that English is an international language this analogy would not apply to Macedonia.The Macedonian dialect preceeded any significant contact with southern Greeks was a distict Greek dialect thus not dependent on outside contact or colonization.It was the Macedonians and not the Southern Greeks who spread the Greek language culture and institutions to lands they conquered outside the Greek world.Conquestadors spread there language and culture to subject peoples.This is the case with the Spanish Portugause British Roman and Arab Empires.Macedonians were no different.They spread their native Greek language culture and knowlege to peoples they conquered in the same manner the Romans spread Latin and the language and Roman culture to conquered lands and the British and Spanish spread British and Spanish culture to lands they conquered or colonized.

I am English and therefore I use English English LOL Last I heard American English was derivied from Britan -I will use Britan instead of England since many of the early American settlors were Irish-Scots thus British but not English.But be careful with the term American English -Ya'all there is Southern American English -Brooklynese American English ,Bostonian American English ,Southern Californian American English ect:)

So, Mr. whoever you are (since you are changing your nicknames so often). Now as we can see you've become A Language and heritage expert, BRAVO. That is so Greek, or may i say WANNA be Greek Characteristic. First of all you, yourself don't know who you are, and you came to tell everybody else who they are, BRAVO. You say you have Macedonian heritage?
Which one of your Parents, and or Grandparants speaks Macedonian language? If the answer to this question is NONE, then, you are not Macedonian and you are just stealing the ethnicity. If you or your parents are born in Aegean Macedonia, that does not neceserilly means that you are Macedonian. For you to be MAcedonian, you need to have Macedonian Ancestry, dating long way back, CAPISCHE?
Remember, MAcedonians, were regarded as barbarians and "DIGLOSOI", since the Ancient times. Do you know what that means? Probably not, but i will tell you: That means that some of them who came in contact with Greek Civilization were able to speak Old Greek , and ANOTHER language, NON-Understandable to Greeks at that time. Or you may know that but you want to cover it since you are Pontian, maybe? You know who are Pontians, right? OK, Pontians and others are imported so-called Greeks from Asia Minor to Aegean Macedonia, during the time of assimilation and ethnic cleansing of Macedonians in Aegean Macedonia starting early 20's.
Here they became Greeks and later ( from 70' and 80's) they became Macedonians. So, these guys are first of all "made" Greeks, and second "made" Macedonians. So, none of them are "REAL" Macedonians. There is one more option. And that is that you really have Macedonian Heritage, but you are so PRO Greek, that you don't even want to admit that somebody in your family back in the time was KILLED by Greeks, because he was saying that he is Macedonian. Or you are one the children of those (Grkomani) who were KILLING the REAL Macedonians.
And, why do you think that you have a power to tell anybody who he is if you don't know WHO YOU ARE? Or maybe you are guided by your Greek HIgh Scholl propaganda started early 70's, about Greekness of Macedonia ( Brainwashing ).
Let me remind you that Macedonia was consisted of three parts since Philip II time. Upper, Central and Lower Macedonia. This is the teritory: to the west little bit into todays Albania, to the North, just North of the town of Prilep and Demir Kapija Pass, to the east, to river Mesta - Nestos and south to the Mt. Ossa.

And by the way your comment on Britan and American English concerning American sttlers does not stand at all, because American emglish is mixed from many dialects, since the early settlers were Italians, Spanish, Portuguese, and other besides Irish, Scots and English.
