Did Isocrates and Philip Meet?

I'd like to put a lil' story about the happy conquerer and the elderly statesman in my poem actually meeting with lil' Alex listening in. Every once in a while I'll exercise a little bit of poetic lisence to fill in some of the gaps. I know, I know, I promised not to do this, but I'll at least try to keep them to a minimum and make them plausible where possible. later Nicator

Hello,I am afraid I can't answer your question but after reading the posts on this thread I remembered that some time ago one of the members of this group wrote a most interesting comment regarding why Philip wanted to conquer Asia Minor- because Isocrates had sent a letter to Philip or had written a letter stating that whoever conquered Asia minor would given divine status.By the way, to any of my friends who are reading this who are regulars on the forum I would like to say hello once again- I have recently come back off holidays and so will be participating; Zeus willing, in the forthcoming discussions.Best wishes to all,

Further to my previous post and an adendum to MArcus'. Isocrates was in his 90's which even now would be considered extremely old. The only way Philip could have met Isocrates would have been at Athens, and I don't think they had the welcome mat out for him. I spoke to Dr Minor Markle as well just to make sure and he agrees with me, or I with him which ever the case may be. I can't remeber if Isocrates was dead or not by Chaeronaea. Anybody????????Dj

when he was 98, Isocrates wrote his last letter urging Philip to bring all the Greeks together against Persia and do what Alexander would soon accomplish.
