A guote from Arrian

Post by beausefaless »

A great person once said and I quote:
"I set no limits of labors to a man of spirit, save only that the labors themselves....lead on to noble enterprises....It is a lovely thing to live with courage, and to die, leaving behind an everlasting renown."
I dedicate these words wisdom to Marcus, Linda, Tre, Sikander and I hope some day, if I work very hard, my intelligence will equal theirs.

..hhmmm, I wonder who that "great" person might be? I was just looking for that very line yesterday to work into my conclusion...along with the rest of the overblown glorification stuff...aahhh, so much fun isn't it!I think Nick, Aengus, John, Agesilos, and some of the others might be jealous for being left out of your admiration list...later Nicator

Hmmm...it's at times like this that I am reminded of why King's had other people taste their food and drink first because you sure can't tell if it's poisoned from its surface appearance. However, you may never live down that 'road scholar' remark - that must mean when a professor gets hit by a car and becomes one with the pavement. He should have been paying attention to the chicken, who as we all know, only crossed the road to get to the other side :-)Regards,Tre

"It is a lovely thing to live with courage, and to die leaving behind everlasting renown"Indeed a wonderful saying, that is itself renown until today!
I wonder if Alexander really did said it or if it was attributed to him later.Companions, I sometimes (many times!) feel very privileged taking part in this Forum and enjoying your company. Regards,
Yiannis

The lack of elegance in the second part of your thread is over shadowed by the first. If you have anything to add related to Alexander III that would be great,Sincerely,Andy

I am not sure young Andrew's compliment was as straight (no pun intended) as an arrow from a Scythian horse archer's bow, however, suck the honey, and throw away the sting. I'd like to make it clear that it was only on this issue that I mentioned specific people. Of course, everyone's contribution is valuable and valued.Linda
