I know I am getting in over my head but the royal family of Macedonia was always saying they were descendents of Argos, right?
In 2000, during an excavation in Argos 136 bronze plaques with isncriptions were found that date back to late 4th century B.C. It is a discovery of the highest importance that informs us about th socioeconomic state of Argos during that era. We need to add here that Argos was one of the few democratic city-states in Peloponnese and always in near- constant war with Sparta.
The plaques refer to withdrawals of money in the form of gold and silver cups as well as regual coins.
