Re: Imagination Invention
Ok, open thy minds for a trip into the imagination just for a few moments of mental R&R:If Alexander came back to life, and came to you, where is the first place you would take him? Please, let's just have fun and eliminate *realism*.I would take him to the Museum of Natural History in New York City, since coming back from the dead to visit me would require him to travel to NYC. He'd love the renovated "Oceal Life" exhibit and the "Planet Earth" exhibit---being a science-fan that he was, yes?Enjoy the playtime!Amazon Queen
Re: Imagination Invention
Where do you start? The guy would be interested in *everything*. Art, science, history since his time (which I think would bring tears to his eyes in part, on a number of levels), war technology, transportation, cities, architecture... he'd want to see it all. Can you imagine what he'd make of the Internet? But the first thing to spring to my mind was to send him up on the next space shuttle flight, whenever that is going to be. Why? First of all, I think he'd love to try flying of any sort. (Of course we'd have to put him on a plane from NYC, where Thalestris has given him the tour of the Museum of Natural History, to Cape Canaveral.) I don't think what happened to the last shuttle astronauts would faze him.Second, he always looked at the big picture, and the view from orbit is the ultimate big picture. You circumnavigate the entire globe every 90 minutes, and see a different part of it each time. I've read in several places that astronauts often return to earth changed as people by that perspective. Hey, we're abandoning realism, let's send him to the moon; the perspective is even bigger.Just how much bigger the world is than he thought it was, I think he'd want to see, even if it shook him. I've always thought that when he was in India and getting indications that there was a lot more land to the east than Aristotle had taught, he started to think, "Perhaps Aristotle is wrong about this. His brilliance was peerless... but he was never here. *I* am." I can see him peering through a shuttle window and thinking, "Now I'm *here*, too... and my Gods, were we wrong! Hmm... at the rate I was going, could I have conquered all that if I'd lived as long as, say, Artabazos? I wonder..."Love & peace,

Oooooh, this is soooo much fun!! Karen, what a *blast* (pun intended)!! Can you hear him? I can hear his voice, quavering from excitement, "Yes, I am the King of the Universe, Lord of the Heavens. Where is Atlas?". After he returned to Earth from space, and thanked Karen for the space shuttle ride, and me for the trip to the science museum, he would next vist....and be taken to.....Come, fellow companions, it's time to playThalestris
Re: Imagination Invention
From the sublime to the ridiculous...once he's back on terra firma how about an ordinary home?!Sitting down to a microwaved meal consisting of some foods he'd never seen...an evening in front of the TV and a phone call, maybe to his friends in NYC. The family dynamic, especially the roles of women, would also knock his socks off...if we could get him to wear any. He might even discover this is the one place he couldn't(maybe even wouldn't want to)reign.
Re: Imagination Invention
Definitely NOT the first stop - but for light relief, how about the filmsets for the two forthcoming Alexander movies. I don't know that he would be impressed by either !It's a great question, though.RegardsSusan

Re: Imagination Invention
Hi.....back to Siwa I think. Then a quick peruse of this site!! It's a fascinating thought though - I'd love to hear his voice, and study his face, his eyes, his hair...mmm...so the Mosaic WAS wrong.Chris
Re: Imagination Invention
The NASA center for the exploration of Mars - after all, he wept for new worlds to conquer - let him see how we are getting on with it now.
I can think of lots of second-best places to take him - - The new Alexandria library on the corniche at Alexandria - to see what had become of the city he founded- the museum at Vergina - to see what became of his family after he died - not much comfort there - an exhibition of the Diadochi, if there is one - I think he would be intrigued to see which ones had done well, although maybe not surprised-a tour of his conquest route by jet - seeing how fast it could be travelled now, but also how much of his route was still racked by warfare and fighting.- a tour of the Imperial War Museum in London, to see how war is fought now.- a map showing all the places on earth named Alexandria or Alexandra - from Alexandria in Egypt to Alexandra Township in South Africa, so he could see how his fame had lasted.Susan

Re: Imagination Invention
Hi Susan,Continuing your thought about visiting filmsets - How about introducing him to Colin Farrell?!I'd be ready to be the fly on the wall to hear the conversation. And pity on the translator - all those expletives flying non-stop from Colin's mouth!!! LOL

Re: Imagination Invention
I like this. Well, instead of the grandiose, how about taking him to the theatre, or to concerts - he did like the arts after all. Or, how about to a sports event. Imagine him crowning the victors at the Olympic Games!Rochelle
Re: Imagination Invention
Playing along, (as I believe in the rebirth of the soul), if Alexander were to be transported in time as he had appeared at that time, I would be happy to take him to Las Vegas, Nevada, where we could have a very good time. WE'd check in at the Bellagio, and plan how to build a casino on the foundation of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
Re: Imagination Invention
This is a post script as I am quite serious about wanting to build a combination history-religious center, and as I have always been fascinated with the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Las Vegas is one site in the world where one can fulfill one's fantasies without too much question.Earlier, in another post I had mentioned a theme park around Alexander, and as I came to know Alexander better I realized how well the Greeks and Roman gods and Alexander's history itself fits into such a theme park.I am interested in teaching children primarily how to enjoy life, history, and religious beliefs. I like Disneyland and am at home there, but I would like for children to learn of classical literature, history, and life itself in an entertaining and enjoyable environment.A theme park does satisfy some of my own fantasies, and I find the Greek and Romans especially fascinating in their influence, especially on our particular hero, Alexander.I have read Alexander the Ordinary website also, and am struck with his opponent's opinion of him. I believe he deserves to be studied in a way that does justice to his life, short as it was.
Re: Imagination Invention
Most definetly the Arts, I agree! Art museums, music halls, etc. Sports, hmmmm. Which would he find entertainment; perhaps hockey--to fight and glide on ice .
Re: Imagination Invention
Before sending him in orbit
I'd first take him to see his birthplace. I'm sure he would recognize the landscape and it would bring him a lot of nice memories.
So a trip to Vergina would be nice. I'd love to see his face when he saw the tourists strolling around the tombs of his relatives and the ruins of his Palace!

Re: Imagination Invention
I would take him by the hand to his tomb in Alexandria, remove his remains and give him the proper rite of burning he ensured his beloved, but his own friends failed to give him, so that part of his life could be done.
