Of course, Ptolemy won possession of it, but look who now wants to be Ptolemy:http://www.cinecon.com/news.php?id=0305057John

So how is Hopkins going to play a man who is about 30 years old when Alexander comes to power, and only in his early 40s when Alexander dies?Hmmm.Great actor, though. All the bestMarcus

- Unless they focus on Ptolemy's relationship with Alexander's corpse...Well, didn't someone say whoever gains possession of it will rule the world? Maybe the relationship could be interesting?John

That wouldn't give us much in the way of character development for Alexander, then, would it? :-)But it would be an... er... interesting film! All the bestMarcus

Well, I guess now we know who will 'narrate' the film.Actually he had been suggested for the part of Aristotle in one of the many Alexander movies - I can't recall which. Below is what Colin Farrell had to say of his upcoming part as Alexander - why am I not excited?'Colin Farrell spoke with BBC Radio 1 about his role as 20 year-old King of Macedonia in Alexander The Great, due to start filming in June and to be directed by Oliver Stone."Everything is in it. There's greed, there's jealousy, there's love, there's pain, there's hope, there's desperation, there's pride, there's friendship, there's betrayal. It's an amazing, amazing story.""There's so much in it - it's so dense that it nearly reads like bad fiction. Obviously bisexual - which wasn't even an issue back then.""There was no term for bisexuality - it was just the way society was. People made love to men and women. It was only later on you had to pick one side of the fence. It's amazing." '
I guess Colin wasn't aces in history, eh?Regards,Tre

As much as I admire Hopkins, I can't see him playing Ptolemy. I see this movie turning into another fiasco like the old one where a middle-aged Richard Burton played a youthful Alexander. (Will Hollywood ever get it right?)

That's hilarious, Tre.Is it Stone's film that's being adapted from Manfredi? In which case, no wonder it reads like a bad novel... :-)All the bestMarcus

"Well, I guess now we know who will 'narrate' the film."You might be right, Tre. In Stone's movie "Nixon," it was none other than Anthony Hopkins who spent a good part of the film, with drink in shaky hand, "narrating" the past deeds of his political life. I guess one could imagine him now doing the same thing in the dark light of Alexander's tomb.- But let's not give away too much of the movie before it even has a chance to come out!John

No, he's not using Manfredi. When Stone asked Gore Vidal to pen the script, Vidal wrote a scathing reply that he would never be associated with a Stone biopic.

I get confused over which director is using what, I have to confess. So it's Luhrmann using Manfredi, right? And Stone is writing his own screenplay, based no doubt on his screenplays for JFK and Nixon, in order to continue his conspiracy theory...?So long as the battle scenes are good... :-)All the bestMarcus

I have to admit, i really needed this humor dose, guys... The moment i heard about the movies (yes, there are still 2 of them)i started to worry. And so far the news are not particularly encouraging. OK, let's continue to muse - anyone want to bet if Colin fixes his brows?! ;)Oh, and Hopkins IS a great actor, but he's now even a bit old for Antipatros or Parmenio parts! IMHO, of course....

Hi Anna,I don't recall how old Hopkins is, but I think he'd be OK for Antipater and Parmenion.I was reading a report that confirmed that Hopkins will play Ptolemy in 'old' age, with a younger actor being used for the battle scenes. I would hope that the younger actor will do more than just the battle scenes for the younger Ptolemy, though... otherwise it will just be stupid! All the bestMarcus

Sorry, Marcus, but does this 'in 'old' age' mean the story will be told in flashbacks, and Ptolemy will be narrating it?
