A friend of mine is going there mid May as his son (A Canadian archaeologist) is in charge of digs at Siwah and also in another part of Egypt. Also my girlfriend is going there mid May and hopes to visit Siwah. So I hope between the three of you folk you might bring back some interesting information on the site.
Re: ATG'S BODY IN SIWA?
Liana Souvaltzi's excavations have stopped since 1996 (?). She claims to have found the tomb of ATG at Siwa. Apparently she discovered some ancient monuments and inscriptions in Greek (she identifies the monuments as tomb). But most archaeologists disagree with her view that this is the tomb of Alexander. She's a controversial figure here in Greece. Her excavations were founded not by the Greek Ministry of Culture (which is usual procedure in such cases) but from private (and unidentified) funds. She was claiming that her excavations were halted because of a conspirasy within the Greek government which included the PM and other officials(!).
I don't know if someone else is currently digging where she used to and if there are any results announced.
Apparently she has published a book where she describes her arguments and denounces the points against her work.
My personal opinion is that she's a bit "unstable" (to put it nicely).Regards,
Yiannis

Please Marcus, what are you going to do in Siwa? I've see the place in 'The Footsteps' tv stuff, and well it's not really a very touristic place, you know. Why not Alexandria? It looks more touristical to me... Museums, postcards, things like that. And there's far less dust in the air in Alexandria, i'm sure. And plenty of water, i think.Anyway
after u come back, do link us Alexandrophiles with some nice pictures you may come to shoot there. It's worth a glance, oh yes.
:)susa [not really taking care in talking to Marcus]

Well, apparently Siwa is becoming quite the tourist Mecca; but, ultimately, I'm going to see the Temple of the Oracle. Anything else will be a bonus. And I am going to Alexandria as well, Susa - hunting around for "the tomb"
and going through the Graeco-Roman museum in considerable detail...Let's hope my photos come out nicely! All the bestMarcus
