Persian accounts of Gaugamela

Post by susan »

There are several recent members of this forum who are interested in Alexander's military campaigns and who may be unaware of the Livius website, which gives Persian accounts of Alexander - so here are some links you might like : The main site - http://www.livius.org

http://www.livius.org/aj-al/alexander/a ... r_t40.html - A contemporary Babylonian account of the Battle of Gaugamela

http://www.livius.org/aj-al/alexander/alexander_z1.html - Oriental sources for Alexander the Great
The Babylonian account is interesting because it gives a different story to the main sources, and implies that the Persian troops abandoned Darius, rather than the other way round.
