Could Alexander have conquered Republican Rome?

Post by Enrique »

I believe so. But I need some proof, so if anyone out there knows where I could find any relevant info, please inform me. I'm especially looking into the Invasion of Italy by Pyrrhus and Alexander the Molossian as well as the military strength of Rome and Carthage around 300 BC. Any help if welcome.
Now if anyone believes he couldn't have acomplished this feat, he/she is welcome to open a discussion.

It was a huge discussion about it in this forum and in allempires. My opinion is always the same: He could. Comparing Pyrrus which almost did it, Alexander had much more tactical and strategic knowledge, so I think he would win there. I have many reasons to think like that, all his campaigns gives me such assumption. Just try to compare way of fighting and winning of Alexander and even much later Romans. But still there can be no proof for this because we don't know how things would be...
We can make some theoretical discussions that's all.

I understand that there is no real proof of this, but maybe someone knows of any source which states the strength of romes army during that time or the intentions that Alexander had for his empire before dieing
