ALEXANDER THE GREAT- PRECURSOR OF CHRIST

Post by D.HATGISTAVROU »

Did you ever realize that during the mass wedding at Susa, everyone would dip their cups into a huge bowl(found recently in Iran)to receive their wine!
Very similar to us receiving communion today!

Hi Dimitrios,I'd say that we're getting onto very dodgy ground here. While the action of taking wine (and, indeed, food) from the 'common pot' is similar - but hardly peculiar either to Greek or Jewish practice - the symbolic significance is what makes Christian Communion special to the religion, which bears no relation to secular dining practices. To be honest (and I don't mean to be rude, so forgive me if I come across that way) it seems a bit too close to, for example, saying that as the body of Pausanias, Philip's assassin, was crucified over Philip's tomb, then Pausanias was a Messianic figure...All the bestMarcus

Kalispera Dimitrios and Marcus!Well, gentlemen, we have an interesting topic presented here. Specifically, though, throughout the myriad number of resources I have been reading (honestly, I am overwhelmed by all of them for they conflict with each other, constantly) I did stumble upon one item of intrigue: the "koine" language in which the New Testament is written was established by ATG. So, I smiled at that, and said to myself, "What did Alexander *not* touch to have affected our world?" Oh, I just received my ebay purchase, Michael Wood's "In The Footsteps of ATG"; I am so enjoying it! And, simultaneously, reading *AGAIN* Heckel's "The Marshalls of Alexander's Empire". Wow! It is a marvel of scholarship! I want to own it someday, when $$$ is no longer an issue. And regarding ebay: a copy of the Pergamun Head is on auction!!!!I fili sou,

It's true Amazon Queen! He has touched many, many aspects of our lives! I am going away on Saturday
for 1 week. When I get back we have to watch
"CHILD OF FIRE". It blows away any video on ATG.This video explains in detail how ATG affected the 3 major religions. It also shows a tribe in SIWA that wears headdress like Macedonians and the Macedonian Star.

No offense taken Marcus. I just like talking about ATG. The incident at Susa was a first I believe. It's just that message that we are all one. Today's Communion is of course about the body and blood of Christ but there is also a message that we are all one, united. Regards Dimitrios.

AH, *Child of Fire*--perhaps Alexander was born not only of fire, but of storm, as well! He demonstrated traits of nature, did he not? Oh, my, are we violating any religious ethics? Is this hero worship? I am must confess, as Queen of the Amazons of a past life, I fell under Alexander's spell . Xenophon had it right about a ruler putting his subjects under a "spell". Enjoy your holiday!

The only trouble is that the message of Susa is not one of equality or communion; Macedonian husbands take noble Persian brides, no Persian takes a Greek bride and it would be anachronistic to think of ancient marriages as partnerships the women are chattels, they become their husbands property: this is not equality. The message is that the Macedonians are now in charge and have supplanted the old Iranian nobility. The parallel marriages of camp followers and soldiers are to legitimise the offspring and so increase Alexander's pool of recruits.
When you think about, it free-choice is the only possible option.

Greetings Karl:But of course, there were no Macedonian brides to give now were there? Proper Greek and Macedonian females did not travel with men on campaign.Your comments on the Ancient Macedonian/Greek view of females also mirrors modern 'organized' religion as well. There was certainly a message of union, but it was for the boys only.Regards,Tre
