Darius's Palace
Can anyone supply a good description of Darius's Palace. Or at least supply information where I can find information on the Palace. To what extent did this palace influence Alexander and successors?

Re: Darius's Palace
Jan,There are a number of books published by Thames & Hudson, that contain loads of photos, reconstructions and descriptions of various palaces and temples - there's one on Babylon and I'm sure there is one on Persia, too.Mortimer Wheeler wrote what I think was called "Flames over Persepolis" which, although very old and probably very difficult to get hold of, should have plenty of good pictures and descriptions...Other than that, I'm looking for such sources myself, so if you do find something let me know! All the bestMarcus
Re: Darius's Palace
Thanks. I found the most wonderful site on the web, The Orient Institute associated with the University of Chicago. There is a thumbnail sketch of the Palace of Darius. On the Alta Vista search engine at the top of the page, when Palace of Darius is used, I was able to find Persepolis and lots of photos of the Palace itself. Naturally, I found it right after posting this inquiry. Thanks so much for your suggestions. On the Yahoo site, I found the Orient Institute, and a different picture in color of the remains of the palace. All those on the www-oi.uchicago. site are in black and white.I was impressed with the number of photos and the details. The care and detail with which many of the sculptures are made certainly had an influence on the Greeks, it would appear.
