I am trying to locate the source and location of an image of Alexander’s funeral wagon or hearse. The image is reproduced in the book Alexander der Grosse und seine Zeit, ed. Enzo Orlandi; texts by Roberto Bosi and Eva Krieg (Wiesbaden: Emil Vollmer Verlag, n.d.), page 70. They state that the source for this image is located in the Biblioteca Civica in Milan, but all my inquiries to various Milanese museums and libraries have met with no success. I suspect the drawing, which appears to be eighteenth or early nineteenth century, might be taken from Caylus’s Recueil d'antiquités égyptiennes, étrusques, grecques, romaines, et gauloises, 7 vol. (1752–67?) but I have not been able to consult that work.
I would very much appreciate any assistance members can provide.
Sincerely,
Richard King

Not sure I can help with that specific image, but I do know that there is an image in Mary Renault's "The Nature of Alexander" (which was most recently re-issued as "The Nature of Alexander the Great"). Whether it is this precise picture I don't know - I suspect not, but it might be based on it. It is certainly based on the description as it appears in Diodorus (?), so I imagine it is probably not dissimilar to the one you cite.

Once that page loads, click on the picture for the full size. It's fairly large.

Unfortunately, there's no information as to the source of the print so if it is the one you're looking for this site isn't much help.
Best regards,
