Hello Kenny,
I must agree with this finding. My take on Guagamela was that Alexander probably had it in mind to trap Darius in a pocket to prevent his escape. If he managed to flee again, try to catch him, if it seemed unlikely that he'd be able to overhaul him, to break off pursuit and continue on to the Persian right wing, thus creating a large swinging pincher from the front and back of their right. At any rate, this appears to be the end result. 1. Separate the Persian left and center by striking at the thinned out armpit. 2. Sweep in behind the elephants, and Darius himself. 3. Attempt the afformentioned trap and capture.4. Continue on to the Persian right to take them in rear. 5. Destroy the right and any remaining remnants of the Persian force. By meeting up with Parmenion on the far left side of the field (from the Macedonian perspective). 6. Go out for a brew and pronounce himself "Lord of Asia"...7. Go to Babylon and take a week long brothel bender. Somebody stop me before this gets out of hand!later Nicator
