Seeing Colin Farrell

Post by jan »

HI Ruthaki, Dara, and Kenny,I will speak to Colin next time. We were just getting to know each other, tentatively. I didn't really want to ask him yet, "How did you like portraying me so well?" I had just read in Premiere magazine that he is about to release a movie on Captain John Smith. He looked just like the picture that is in Premiere Magazine, dark hair and beard as well. He is very attractively dressed, putting on a great impression, as his white shirt was tres cher! He looked like a high fashion rich and famous star, as he also sported very expensive shades. He is a great study in esp, as he caught on quickly and responded to something that I said, so like in Camelot, we loved each other in silence!I hope we meet again as I want to discuss his performance as Alexander now. I am studying this dvd like crazy, and like it more and more. Colin is really a great actor, and this movie is the "real people" version of Alexander. I guess Oliver Stone must have known John Cassavetes and Roger too.

Hi Jan, I'm glad you are seeing things in the DVD that may have been missed in the movie, and enjoying it. I found I liked it more each time I saw the movie, concentrating on various things each time I viewed it, and look forward to getting the DVD (and a DVD player) soon. Thinking over who would have been a better actor for the role, it's difficult to chose. In my own 'search' for Alexander -- that is a real live person to put his face on so I could connect with the living soul for my novel, I have only twice seen anyone who remotely resembled what I believe he might have been like. Once in Thessaloniki train station I saw a young man, small, compact built, bright hair (blonde) and features like I've seen on busts of A.
Then again, two summers ago on the island of Thassos, a beautiful young man (a waiter at the tavern) who looked exactly like Alexander from the profile on the coins. Problem was he was a bit too tall, but otherwise a dead-ringer. My friend and I returned a couple of times to the tavern so I could gaze at him.
Now, I wonder if Oliver had thought of scouting around Greece to find his "Alexander"? Wouldn't that have been interesting?Meanwhile, I was rather satified with the choice, although it was a tad awkward when Colin was playing the 18-year old opposite his 'mother' Angelina.
Other than that...the young boy who played him as a child bore a striking resemblance to Colin.

Hi Ruthaki,I hope to discuss this movie on the IMDB but I have not yet gotten to it. Someone reminded us of it a while back and I logged onto it, forgetting that I had done so earlier. There is a guy who makes me think of Alexander a lot on Shop At Home sales network. His name is Shawn, and makes me think of the Mosaic of Issus appearance. He has a slight resemblance to my way of thinking, but I honestly like Colin Farrell because as I said earlier, this movie appears to look more about me today than Alexander then. I could see myself a lot in this film, and I am convinced that Oliver Stone did that purposefully. He caught a lot of my behaviour on film and that is why I caustically commented when I noticed a scene with Olympias that is similar to something that happened to me, and then later with several scenes of Alexander appearing a lot like me, I thought well, he is actually proving that he has studied me and knows me very well. With both Angelina and Colin, he even is immortalizing me with my own monogram, a combo of Alexanderjcf or my mom and me AJCF. Anyway you look at it, people either really love me or hate me, and having been a school teacher so long, i can take that without any problem at all.And since I have been studying Alexander from an inner vision ability for so long, this movie made quite an impression as Stone has adapted those scenes so well in this dvd. A couple scenes I do not recall in the original filming but I saw it through Regal and MGM, so who knows? The racing horses scene impresses me now so much, and I don't recall it in the original.I truly like Colin Farrell in most of his work, and believe he presents a competent and likeable character. As I study it, I like him more and more. His entry in Babylon resembles my passport picture so much, and unfortunately, it is still as virginal as the driven snow too. Gotta change that soon.Well, thanks Ruthaki, for being a friend. I really appreciate it. Jan

On Jason O'Brien's website for Oliver Stone, the world's greatest director, is a post that says that the DVD is selling well. The DVD is better than the original movie as Oliver has taken care to be sure that it is saleable and marketable now. I also just read some of his comments about the film that a fella named Jeff is posting. Seems the Koreans had difficulty with the original also. Very interesting articles on Jason O'Brien now.

The directors cut is currently number one in the UK DVD charts. The theatrical two disc version is at number 3I'm glad to see them doing well. The general consensus at my place of work (a lot of people didnt see the film at the cinemas but have hired or brought directors cut) is that its 'pretty good' which pleases me as these are people with only a slight interest in the ancient world. Profession is civil servants by the way, but dont hate me for that! Somebodys got to do it!

Well, if a bunch of civil servants can think that Stone's film is "all right", that makes them OK in my eyes! :-)It was flawed, sure; but it was much maligned, and unfairly. It's a shame it wasn't given a better chance in the cinemas. All the bestMarcus
