Hi All,Hope everyone is doing well this summer! A question: while Alexander was studying with Aristotle at Mieza, would Philip have posted a garrison or some sort of bodyguard unit nearby to watch after the Prince's safety -- not to mention the safety of the sons of some of Macedonia's leading citizens? Thanks, in advance!Scott Oden

Hi Scott, I was at Mieza two summers ago. It is in a unique setting built in the side of the mountain cliff with a deep ravine and river in front of it.
I would imagine there might have been a garrison nearby but the whole set-up with the caves and all, was pretty idyllic, dedicated to the Nymphs. I can look through my info and see if there is any evidence of a garrison nearby. Could have been down on the lower part beyond the river, but there wasn't much room for one at the actual site.

Hello again Scott, There is a place nearby (past the site) where they have located an ancient theatre and tombs.
Also, where the town of Naoussa is, up on higher ground (I believe) east of the site of Mieza, there might have been a location for a garrison. The school site itself is long and narrow, one side is the cliffs which had the buildings built into it (including the caves) and the other side is the ravine. It's all quite heavily wooded. Part of it isn't excavated very much. If you want to see some pictures, email me. ruthaki
