Alexander in Pompeii Mosaic, Please Help..

Post by alexandros777 »

Hey guys! I've been comming here for quie a few years but I never registered until now.. I really wnt all your advice, opinions and info on this subject.. Rigt in front of me I have a really goodf clear lareg picture of Alexander in that Mosaic.. I want too know about his armour... It really looks similar to the armour found in the supposed tomb of Philip II... mixed with a linothorax type armour or curiass... What do you guys think? Also theres like a fave and head at the top of the armou just under Alexanders throat.. to me it looks like the sun/medussa/ or that 16 point variation o that star symbol of theres.. Then also you see scales on the armour... Do you think this is linen or leather with scales? Or? I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and info on this! ALso if you know where I can find any info on ANY other armour of Alexander the Great including this piece, please let me know.. I've really wnated to make the armour in that mosiac..
Thanks Guys..Jaminhope to hear from ya!

There is definitely a Gorgon head (Medusa) on the armor. I'm always in doubt whether the mosaic represents Issus, as Curtius explicitely tells us Gaugamela was the only battle against Darius on which occasion Alexander put on his armor.Regards -
