Todays Press Lurhman still going Ahead
Comrades HiToday in the british press,,, I read Lurhman Stiil doing the Alexander movie dispite the Stone movie bombing. With Dicaprio and Kidman.I think Kidman is made for Olympias as I feel in real life she is more mysterious that we actually think of her.Is my prophecy one day gonna happen,,, Just take a look at The Gangs Of New York and you may just be a little convinced as I am the Dicaprio will be Alexander.

Great,Kenny,Leonardo has proved he is a great actor! I wish him and Lurhman all the best. Thanks for telling us. I just hope that this tale will emphasize the fearlessness and heroism of Alexander! I trust that Leo will give a great interpretation to ATG!

Thumbs down for both of these. In spite of all the nasties about Stone's movie, I enjoyed it and could relate far more to his castings than this.
Re: Todays Press Lurhman still going Ahead
I'm not too convinced by Di Caprio, although at least he will not need to dye his hair! I thought Ms Jolie was perfectly cast as Olympias, but Kidman is a good actress (or is it actor in this PC world?) so I am hoping for the best.I would still feel better though if Ridley Scott was attached to this project. Still, I'd rather Baz taking it on than no one. Kit

Thank you, Ruth!I agree with you. I thought Stone's casting was fine, as well. I enjoyed the film, so the cast was good enough for me.The jury is still out on DiCaprio, for me. Kidman, I think would be okay as Olympias. I would really like to see Mel Gibson, as Philip. I think he would be good. I did like the work Val Kilmer did in Stone's film. I didn't have any gripes with his Philip.Dara

Hail Nickhail DIcaprio has real blonde Hair,,, I can understand that you really got upset with a little blonde dye and it causes you to lose sleep,,, Never mind if the story isw no geed ets as long as they get the hair right Nick thats vital.I cand imagine where Peter Jackson got his 3foot actors with huge hairy feet to play those Hobbits. But hey Nick we really gotta stick to detail what a crime blonde dye seems to be here.

Well, Ruthaki and Dara, Leonardo di Caprio is listed in this month's list of promising young actors, and Colin Farrell is noticeably missing from this list. As Leonardo has the hauteur that it takes to play Alexander, I believe he will do it much better than you might think. But again, that depends upon the director, doesn't it? I have read, however, that he does not intend to play Alexander so I wonder at all the current rumors. But because of Kenny's certainty, I did not mention it last time out. I just maintain that the more interpretations of Alexander the better. After all, look how many Superman, Batman, Starwars, and Billy the Kid movies have been made. So what if it is by an Aussie instead of an American or Frenchman?By the way, anybody happen to see the Piano Teacher, and what do you think of Benoit Magimel if you did?He won best actor for his role in that movie!Hope you have seen it.

Sorry. I meant to say GQ's list of 10 top actors!
Gentleman's Quarterly is on the stands now. Russell Crowe is first.

Janet HailIrespective of how Colin Farrel was rated,,, as a whole he is a very good actor and did as well as he could with Alexander.Kenny
Re: Todays Press Lurhman still going Ahead
Baz has the habit of going overboard and flamboyant. As for Leonardo, good actor, but still sounds and looks like he is 16, kinda creepy. Nicole is an amazing actor, she'll do well. However, I still think the cast was perfect for the Oliver movie, he personally messed up, not them. People shift too much of the responsability on the actors, if they have nothing to act on...they cannot act, they are the soldiers after the plan of battle. If I could do things my way, I would have had Mel Gibson as a director, and the cast Oliver Stone had. At least Mel Gibson loves a good story, and does not just focus on blood as one such Ridley Scott. Besides, Braveheart was amazing!

Hail Kenny - I love your hobbit analogy.
Yeah, 3 foot actors! And don't forget that Orlando Bloom has brown hair and brown eyes, but he played a blond, blue eyed elf.
It was a wig for him, though. A long wig. I needed that laugh. Thanks!Lucien - I agree about Luhrman. I haven't liked anything he's done so it worries me. But Mel Gibson worries me even more. Sure he can tell a good story, but he's so homophobic...Hephaistion probably wouldn't even exist in his version.

Shame he forgot to dye his eyebrows as well! :)Kit

Hi Kenny, I agree that he got a bum deal! He is learning, and I don't think that this will hurt him too much. I see that he is doing Sonny Crocket role in Miami Vice. He has quite the muscles in a recent movie magazine photo so I suspect he is off and running to bigger and better pastures.
Re: Todays Press Lurhman still going Ahead
Ther hair thing was a mistake, they should have kept him with his natural hair highlighted. The reason I think that would have been better, is because it places Alexander's looks in between. We don't really know for sure how he looked like; some say brown hair, others blond, others reddish gold, and I think it would have been better to leave him in between - a cross between the common view "blond hair" and the mosaic. There is a picture of Colin still in training, with his hair highlighed, and he looked good, he looked natural. I have to say one thing on Mel Gibson, a fellow companion said that he is homophobic (I'm sorry, I don't remember who)Mel Gibson actually never mentioned homophobia, in fact he often played around with other actors (all in fun) he took the accusations in the early 90's that he was a homosexual really well, played it off, winked at a guy and walked away. UNLIKE Tom Cruise. The braveheart ordeal (where the lover is thrown out the window) he remarked that it was to show the cruelness of Longshanks, that he meant no mercy. GLADD did go after Mel Gibson for that scene, and he responded well to it. I think when it comes to relevence, Mel doesn't shy away, he would be a good director, and he would include Hephaistion. But if you notice, and notice well, there would not be any sex, Mel Gibson himself really doesn't do many love scenes (or at least graphic love scenes) devout Catholic, but he tells the truth. And I rather like it...I don't know about other people, but personally sex scenes get in the way of a good story at times, we know how sex is done, just move on!!!!!!!!! (sex scene with Rosario was way too long!!)Wow, so many grammar problems...oh well :0)
Re: Todays Press Lurhman still going Ahead
HailI agree sex scenes do get in the way as sex gets in the way of most things.SEx has nothing at all to dso with Alexanders story.I agree Gibson is fantastic,, But you said he tells thetrueth,,, I think that part about telling the trueth and Braveheart was a real let down.Mel Gibsons William Wallace was far removed from Reality nearly all the way throught,,, But at the same time the movie was brilliant,,, That is one of the reasons I go with the Manifred books as its inbetween.Wallace didnt defeat the English in open battles at Stirling he basically cut the English to pieces as they cropssed the bridge.I really wouldnt mind Gibson Bending the story as long as he grasped Alexander which is what he did with Wallace.
