Alexander shut out at Oscars

Post by jan »

It was during the musical awards that I most noticed the absence of anything pertaining to Alexander. Both Troy and the Passion did get a few nominations, but Alexander was totally shut out! Somehow or other it taught me a lot about Hollywood politics. The costumes, set designs, and music were all torpedoed by the absolute dislike of this movie! It showed! Astonishing!

Not to mention Chris Rock dissed it in his monologue comparing Farrell to Crowe and saying something along the lines of Alexander was no Gladiator.

Hail Janet Tre.I always maintained the Oscars nothing more than guys of no significance dressing up and patting each other on the back.Ok Alexander should overall be overlooked for Awards.. But the Vangellis Theme tune was worth a mention also the cinematograpgy and costume etc.The Oscars is in no way representitive,,, I dont know what movies actually won and to be honest I couldnt care less they are as a rule borring and forgetable.Clint Eastwood again with a movie about a woman boxer I mean I cant wait if its as exciting as Unforgiven,, which borreed the hell out of me.Its just a load of over indulged Prima Donas getting dressed up and patronizingly slap each other on the back.IU find the parts where some past age actor tumbling on on walking sticks,,, The simultanously everyone stands and claps an ovation,,, Not that any of them give a rats arse for who it is they are ovating. They seem to stand in unison like a mexican wave.Kenny

Well, can you blame them? It didn't deserve anything. Crap crap crap. It will become a by-word for rubbish - like Plan 9 from Outer Space. In fifty years, students will hold Alexander theme nights, wearing blonde wigs. Linda

Sorry - the interiors looked as if they were shot in Vegas, and the exteriors gave hardly any indication of the amazing places Alexander passed through. One scene with mountains was great. That is what I remember from the film. Most of the time I was either cringing and looking away, or struggling to stay awake. Costumes were awful (although the fabrics were very nice). If you mean the poster, then it was ok.#Linda

HI Kenny,
I saw Million Dollar Baby the night before the Oscar Awards, but because of talk show guests I was pretty certain that it would win the award. The movie is really an artistic achievement for those of us who like great character development movies. Someone on Beliefnet.com posted a great piece on the transformation of character in this movie, an Islamic fellow. The best part of the movie is that it really is more an Alexander type film than you would suppose. Someone recently asked about a modern Alexander type, and this movie is IT! You have to realize the differences to realize the similarities. I personally loved the Million Dollar Baby movie because of its ability to show the change and transformation in the lead character portrayed by Clint Eastwood as well as his protege, played by Hillary Swank. She is reminiscent of Alexander in her winning every single battle she fights! But it must be seen, and I won't be a spoiler.Frankie character reminds me of an UFO I once saw, which was a tiny speck, totally black from distance perspective, coming up close, turning gray, and finally in total white as it descended, and so Frankie does just the opposite, totally white-faced, turning darker and darker at the end of the film as he makes the most important decision in his life. It was a beautiful film in that respect, as well as the usual underdog become heroic! It is excellent and deserved the win!

Honestly, I think the costumes were well done, I kind of like Alexander's cuirass, and the scene of him as a little boy with his mother, I thought the enterior was also well done. The movie had issues, but in my opinion set design and costume was not it. I think it at least deserved a nomination for cinamatography. Deep down we all know why it wasn't even mentioned...As for Chris Rock's weak attempt at a joke, aimed at people who are what he will never be - good actors; in my opinion, he is horribly wrong about Colin and Jude Law. Colin just didn't have substance to act upon with Alexander. Russell Crowe made up 50% of his lines for Gladiator, because he too lacked a script, but that's easy to do when your character NEVER EXISTED!!. Gladiator brought the interest of sword & sandal epics back to life, but Alexander was never in any way shape or form meant to be Gladiator. It cannot even be placed in the same category; it was meant to be a biography of a life, while Gladiator is the fictional tale of a particular time and occasion (Gladiatorial games). Having said that, If you want Jay Leno to host the Oscars, but all you can get is Chris Rock...WAIT!
