Re: What type of influences did Alexander the general leave
what influence do you mean exactly? Of course, all Alexander's marshals learned a lot during their campaigns with him and this will certainly have influenced them. Shortly after Alexander's death, however, (if I remeber it correctly), the position of the general in a battle changed. Alexander always stood in the front of his army, on the right wing. I think it was at the battle of Gabiene or that of Paraetakene (both between Antigonos and Eumenes in 317/16) that for the first time the general didn't really participate in the melee any more and tried to direct the troops from behind.regards, abm

What I meant was that how did he change the world as we know today; it could be geographically or anything.
Re: What type of influences did Alexander the general leave
Perhaps you should focus on Philip. He is the great innovator, not Alexander, although his successes were more spectacular.HM

I had no choice, my partners chose Alexander and I have to stick with it.

Re: What type of influences did Alexander the general leave
Greetings Raza,First even though Hellenism was being spread east of the Aegean before Alexanders' time there's no doubt he *kicked* the door open so to speak, and helped the spread Macedonian (Greek) culture through out the known world (including military) Alexander and his father were the first to use small moveable artillery that could mantled and dismantled quickly, first to use combined arms warfare (Gaugamela) successfully. Alexander wrote the book on logistics (a metaphor) and a master horseman. But most important besides being a statesman he created around twenty five new*mints* and had old ones revamped for his coinage to be used through out the world centuries after his death by doing this he laid the foundation for the Roman Empire. You need to find time to study Alexander and learn for yourself for there's more! (many books to choose from)Regards, Andrew

Le Rider, Alexandre le Grand. Monnaie, finances et politique, Paris 2003, recently argued that for various reasons Alexander did not want the create a unified coninage for the entire empire. Indeed his conquests and the subsequent spread of hellenism formed an important base for the Roman Empire in the East and also for the rapid growth of Christianity.regards, abm

His freeing up of the vast Persian bullion reserves also heralded the largest economic expenditure seen in the world to that time. Although admittedly an awful lot of that money ended up paying mercenaries in the wars of the diadochi! And to think the Archamenids left it sitting in treasuries!Kit.

Hi Andrew,He also served up several excellent examples of the military maxims 'march divided, fight united' and the concentration of force at the decisive point (both tactically and strategically)!regards,Kit.
