vanishing threads
Hi allA few days ago someone raised the issue of interesting threads dropping off the screen. I replied mentioning a method of organizing the forum that would take care of this and, hopefully, enhance our enjoyment of this excelent meeting place.I didnGÇÖt get much of a reply to it then, but I think it is really useful and, at least to my inexpierenced eye in websites management, not very difficult to implement. So here it is again.Basically, it consists of 3 elements:1. New threads appear at the top of the screen (no change here, though maybe a small icon saying GÇ£newGÇ¥ besides it for the first 24 hours after its entering would be nice).2. A thread that receives a reply is immediately moved to the top of the screen.3. Threads remain visible as long as they have received a reply/been entered (whatever happened later) in the last, say, 7 days. This will ensure that topics that are popular will be at the top of the screen, and those who are not/were exhausted will climb down, until they drop off the screen if they are not visited for a whole week. The main drawback is that some people may try to keep alive their own threads (not so bad in general, but think about endless Macedonian-Greek debates). However, this could make easier its detection and, if needed, deletion by moderators.I donGÇÖt know if this requires too much time/effort to do (my knowledge about websites' organization is nil), but if it is feasible, I think this could benefit the discussion in the forum.So... thoughts anyone?Kind regards,Alejandro

Re: vanishing threads
Greetings alejandro,Thomas wanted to phase in a complete new look to pothos. Myself and one other person (Ruth?) thought the original was perfect because it was so easy to navigate but we were the very minority and correct me if I'm wrong everyone else was for it. Maybe it's time to lobby Thomas. (let him know what's on your mind).Personally I think you have a great idea for this original web site.Regards, Andrew
Re: vanishing threads
Its a shame as sometimes threads get pushed down into oblivion by the newer ones, even when the debate is still ongoing and new posts have been added to it.

This moderated forum is for discussion of Alexander the Great. Inappropriate posts will be deleted without warning. Examples of inappropriate posts are:
The Greek/Macedonian debate
Blatant requests for pre-written assignments by lazy students - we don't mind the subtle ones
Foul or inappropriate language
Greetings Nick W.
If you grouped the above to one paragraph this would free up more space for a few more post on the forum.
Best regards, Andrew
