They just don't know how to write lyrics any more - not like in the good old days. I mean, who could ever forget Ooh, eeh, oh, ah, ah, bing, bang, walla-walla bing bang?:-)

I am going to be negative again, but the soundtrack may have been good - but it really didn't impact on the film. When Alexander was being attacked by the elephant, they played this elegeic music. Him. He was in mortal danger. Too portenous - the whole thingThere was programme on Ancient Greek music on Radio 4 this morning, Sounding the Divine.http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/religion/so ... ine.shtmlI was half awake, but some of the music was truly beautiful, and the programme discussed if we could hear echoes of ancient music in current music, and reckoned you could. If Vangelis did this, I wasn't aware of it. Oh....it could have been a contender.... :)

"If Vangelis did this, I wasn't aware of it."I recognized echoes from Wagner's "Walk++renritt", which I thought was almost a clich+¬ after *Apocalypse Now*.Personally, I think that the Gaugamela scene in the movie would have been better without music (and bird's eye views).Jona

I swear they were singing "Drown him!" in one piece, but I think that was the chorus in the end titles. If they were referring to Stone, by that time, it was a sentiment of which I could thoroughly approve.CheersHalil

I don't know what they are saying. It's like the Gladiator soundtrack, no one seems to know what language that woman sings with. I think the soundtrack is pretty, but not at all what I imagined for ALEXANDER. I was hoping that the soundtrack would reflect the places he passed by, with a sort of international compilation. That would have been pretty cool. I guess for the movie the soundtrack became generic in the long run, although I have to say the theme for young alexander is probably one of the prettier themes I have ever heard. The theme for his entrance into the harem was pretty nice too. heck nothing beats the Lord of the Rings soundtrack

Do you mean 2001: Space Odyssey? (As opposed to the fact that the first LoTR film was released in 2001).I suppose it's a different 'type' of music - for LoTR it was an original score, whereas for 2001 it was established 'concert' music.M

Oh, Marcus, You have my favorite sound track now, and I just checked out the movie to hear it again. NOw that I have converted to dvd's, my old long play of Space Odyssey is only a collectible. But I hear Porus, Porus, repeatedly on the album I have of Alexander, or that is the way it sounds to me, and had me confused for a long time until I saw the movie. Does anyone else here that too? Or is that the drown him chorus?

Hello LucianI really liked the Alexander soundtrack at first when I could imagine my own scenes to the different tracks. After frequent playing, I've got tired of a couple of the tracks (particularly the piece Bagoas dances to). But when I saw the movie, I was disappointed. The music promised so much but the movie delivered so little. The triumphant end titles were completely at odds with the downer ending and Ptolemy's depressing summing up.But I agree with you on LOTR - for a movie soundtrack that certainly takes some beating. I did like "Jurassic Park" though. I'm probably one of the few people who kept going back to watch it just to hear the theme again. Special favourite bit is playing when the helicopter descends by the waterfall. What a wonderful combination of soundtrack and visuals in that whole flight sequence to the island! Masterly, IMHO.CheersHalil

The song "Titans" really should have been played in the beginning of the movie, the Introduction, because that beginning was soooooo slow. The end should have been calmer
