Alexander WIki / Alexander commentary

Post by ancientlibrary »

As I've spoken of before, I'm developing an
"Ancient Library" site, intended to have a lot of
texts, and where anyone can add comments on
ancient authors. I'm going to start by focusing on
the Alexander texts, since there is a substantial
community of people interested in them. To that
end I'm also typing Pratt's Curtius, to which will
be added Arrian, Plutarch and Justin, at least..I am also considering opening an "Alexander
Wiki," functioning rather like Wikipedia, but
geared to the Alexander community. I figure that
could also turn into a a "Wiki Classical
Dictionary." Both would be managed and
permissioned like Wikipedia, a "copyleft"
free-for-all..My questions are these:.(1) Who here uses Wikipedia or other Wikis?(2) Who here writes basic HTML?.I am caught between HTML and Wiki Engines.
The commentary engine is developed, and I'd
like to keep it working with simple HTML--only
certainly simple tags are allowed. But I like the
"Wikipedia" (Media Wiki) engine, which many
know, and which has its own special mark-up
language. It would also help if Alexander Wiki
Articles could start from their Wikipedia markup
text.
.That's the story. What do people think? How are
the Pothos articles marked-up, btw?

Nobody here contributes to the Wikipedia article
on Alexander? Nobody here writes HTML?

Hi Tim,I wasn't aware that your previous post was calling for people to write for the Wikipedia article. It didn't read that way ... otherwise I would have been quicker to offer my services (subject to availability and time!).However, I don't do HTML, unless someone were to provide me with some easy-to-use software, or unless I were to save a Word document as HTML - that's as far as it goes for me, I'm afraid. All the bestMarcus

Simplified

I must be clearer. I am asking: (1) does anyone edit the Wikipedia article? (If
so, then you understand the Wikipedia
mark-up.) (2) Does anyone write HTML? (If so, then you
understand HTML.) I need to decide whether my new Alexander
commentary system should use Wiki Markup or
HTML. I am leaning toward simplified
HTML--with a limited set of tags allowed (ie.,
, , , , , ).Ah well. I'll finish it up and see what happens.
