Phillip and ATG closer to GOTTI then Colin Farrell

Post by george7 »

Colin Farrell is a complete disgrace to Alexander. The real Alexander would vomit if he knew that a whinning pretty boy with shaved legs would portray him 2000 yrs later.
Alexander was a dominent alpha male figure.A more sophisticated version of John Gotti would be a much closer discription.Alexander grew up in a war-like society of violence and blood feuds (Still common in rural Greece epecially Crete and other areas of the Balkans such as Montenegro and of course Sicily). The Argead Dynasty that composed the ruling family of Macedonia was ruled like a Mafia Dynasty.Essentially a dominent Familia claiming decent from Zeus and Heracles with other associates likea ya know what I mean or what.Mess with the Argeads and ya sleep with the fishes. The associates held the title of Hetoroi. They were made men in the modern Sicilian God Fatherish sense. To be part of the Heteroi one had to kill a man in battle another words had to get a confirmed hit to be made.Phillip bought the families of upper and lower Macedonia under his rule in the similar way that the Gambino family in New York brought the lesser families under there supervision. In addition to blood feuds and vendettas
the Macedonians were constantly at war with hostile Thracian and Illyrian tribes who they eventially conquered and subjected.
As for his maternal side the Epiroties were organized quite similar under the rule of the Mossalian Family claiming decent from Achilles.
The Greeks of Homers time were organized in the same manner. The family of Achilles and his Myrimdoms.Like a you know what I mean or what,
Hollywood Pretty boy types like Colin Farrell would not have survived in such societies and neither would Leonardo Di Capria who Baz Luhrman wants to cast as his version of Alexander.Stone and Luhrman perhaps smoke crackl together. And Pretty Boy Brad Pitt as a Achilles in the movie Troy ehhhhh This proves that Stone and the Hollywood crowd are absolute imbecilles .So this is Stone's 15 yr dream.A movie of absolute crap.A Stonian version of J Edgar Hoover in Sandals.
Mario Puzo with a few history lessons would produce a better Alexander Film then Stone.
A typical Macedonian of ATG times would be a more likea Sammy the Bull Gravano then Leonardo.
Woops !!!! I guess thats not Politically Correct to go against the softer and gentler more updated modernized ATG who is one step a way from starring in a Gay Porno Flick .
I probaly offended you Stone fans.

PLEASE, do not compare the likes of that despicable John Gotti to Alexander the Great!
And I agree with Luis, Colin Farrell did an exceptional job of his portrayal. Would you rather have had Leo di Caprio???

It's a bit unfair to criticise Farrell - he was cast, he played the role as the director asked him to. I haven't seen the movie, so I don't know whether I should agree that it was a bad casting decision ... but I *cannot* see how Farrell can be blamed for doing the job he was hired to do.All the bestMarcus

Ruth, DiCaprio is a fine actor. While he would not be my personal pick to play Alexander, I think it a bit early to say he would have been or will be bad. Farrell is a good actor, but he's no Russell Crowe (then again, few are). He just happens to be cute and is the darling of critics for the moment, although not in Alexander and that is an important point.

:-) No, you offended those who know the history of La Cosa Nostra and know the myths of The Godfather and reality. Capone would have cleaned Gotti's clock with his bat and would have rightly called him a punk by his standards. Never judge a book by it's cover and I have no problem with Brad Pitt, ever, anytime :-) but you can be good looking enough that it distracts from your acting and the reviews that criticized him criticized his looks especially which were on par for what Achilles should have looked like and his performance was never less than solid. He would have had to have been really great however to get past his looks and he wasn't in that role. But go see Fight Club, it might change your mind. No one said Achilles was ugly or darkhaired, or that Alexander had to be...nor am I aware it is required for you to have killed someone to play either.Sounds like your problem is with Stone - after all, he wrote the script, but apparently did a poor job of directing the actors. DiCaprio and Farrell are both good actors but I would question whether they have the required presence for the part.I had two friends tell me that their perfect cast for the film would have been Cruise and Pitt as Alexander and Hephaistion much like in Interview with A Vampire. I grit my teeth when I see Cruise, but admittedly, 10 years ago he could have pulled it off.

What you mean is to your perception of Alexander. Who knows what the real Alexander was like? This is a movie! I certainly don't buy that Alexander would have been anything like the Dapper Don, John Gotti, either.I believe that because I called myself King Midas with the movie touch that this movie just proves that if I learn of it, it will be a movie. And I am expecting to end my interest in Alexander now that the movie is released. As I have already noted, the Doris Day reference made me realize that Stone had me in mind when making the movie, I finally see how he sees me. Aren't I the lucky one? As Bobby Burns the English poet said to see ourselves as others see us. I gotta admit I like Colin Farrell as he is just adorable! Stone's version of Alexander is a faux Alexander, but so what? It is just a movie! And he is creating another teenidol in using Colin. Bonne chance! Good Luck! Colin and I are lookalikes! I admit it! (Shaving the legs may be a joke on Linda Lovelace in Deep Throat!) This is a joke inside a joke movie, and I still think of Stone as some kind of Hephaestion!

Definitions of toughness change - someone who is a successful Hollywood actor, like Di Caprio and Farrell, is probably a lot tougher than the rest of us. They work long hours, they take a lot of substances, they are ambitious. They have got to the top in their professions, as stars, and I like Di Caprio, and I think he would have been an interesting Alexander. Sometimes Alexander is shown as muscular, but in the sarconice personus he shown as quite wiry; Di Caprio coudl do that kind of Alexander, and he woudl bring some humerous charm, or could do, if he played it that way. Tom Cruise has the energy - yes he is too old now, but he might have been good..Daniel Craig is good - a good actor, with a good range. Except in Tombraider. Which was crap.

Colin Farrells not a bad choice, I wouldnt go so far as to call him a 'pretty boy', titles like that go to Jude Law and Orlando Bloom. Colins actually quite a tough guy and not a bad pick for Alexander.Anyway, if the coins are anything to go by, Alexander liked to model his own appearance on the god Apollo, who was a model of youthful good looks.
