Name confirmation?

Re: Name confirmation?
Greeks called it Persepolis but the original name was Parsa.
Iranians today usually call the city both ways but in maps you see it as Persepolis.

Re: Name confirmation?
Name: Greek Persepolis (City of Persa). In Persian records from as early as 500 B.C. the city is referred to as Persa.

Re: Name confirmation?
In Persian mythology, Jamshid (Yima) is a mythical king, for a long period, Iranians didn't know that modern Persepolis was the ancient capital of Achaemenid empire and they thought it is the same mythical Palace of Jamshid that has been mentioned in Avesta (sacred book of Zoroastrianism).About the word "Takht" (old Persian Takara), it is interesing that Darius the Great in his famous inscription in the Persepolis says:"Darayavaush Khshayathiya vazraka, Khshayathiya Khshayathiyanam, Khshayathiya dahyunam, Vishtaspahya pusa, Hakhamanishiya, hya imam takaram akunaush."Darius the Great king, King of Kings, King of countries, son of Hystaspes, an Achaemenian, who built this palace. And the word Parsa just means "Persian", when Xerxes in his inscription in Persepolis says it is the city of Parsa, he means it is the city of Persians.

When I see these words and translation pie what you
have posted ,i can realy understend the big mess.
Who is that Darius?
If I have been that person ,on the end of my mind ,I will newer understend that you are talking about "me"!.
So it is realy close to the truth research on the
tradition of existing people than historians and usefullnes of accepted names in science.
Today DARA and PERSA are common names in the regions of historical influence, and that is more close than Darius and Parsa.
SO WHAT IS REALY PROPER NAME FOR PERSON WHAT SOME OF YOU HAVE IDENTIFIED WITH ALEXANDER?

Re: Name confirmation?
Hi Bodan,I'm not sure quite what you're getting at here.Certainly the 'real' name of Darius was Darayauvaush - Darius is a latinization of the Greek Dareios, which was how the Greeks got their heads round the Persian name.Alexander is an Anglicisation of the Greek name Alexandros. Other forms of the name, such as Iskander, Eskander, and even the Scots Alistair, are local/linguistic variants, which come about because the form of the language necessitated a form of 'translation'.?All the bestMarcus
