Battleground and Becoming Alexander on Discovery

Perhaps I have lowered my expectations too far after seeing the History Channel special, but I thought Battleground: The Art of War, Alexander the Great was ten times better. I could quibble on details here and there but the computer animation was infinitely superior to the History Channel. Better commentary too.Becoming Alexander - This was enjoyable but actors take their jobs much too seriously. And there's Stone saying he felt the spirit of Alexander...and they talked about how hard it was for the actors having to stay in a tent in Morrocco with no contact with the outside world and one meal a day to toughen them up. When I was a kid we called that 'camp.' :-)The Oxygen Special on Farrell and Alexander was fluff.

Judging from the reviews of Farrell that are starting to roll in, he wasn't a very good Alexander. So far it's a splat on rottentomatoes.com and critics are saying Troy was better. 6 bad, 1 good. I hope that ratio improves."A three hour bore." Ouch!

So glad to see that someone else saw these two specials aired late Sunday night here in Arizona. I liked the Making of Alexander as it reminded me of my old friend Dorothy Sullivan who had as many wrinkles as the sergeant teaching Colin Farrell how to drill his men. But most of all, I liked seeing Robin Lane Fox and hearing the sound of his voice, as it became clear to me whether psychic audio is true or false. I had hear him psychically one time so that this confirmed both his appearance and audio sound. Very grateful to Discovery channel for help in this search for truth. The scene with a solitary Alexander before a sunset was very well done, and I also appreciated the great muscletone in his musclebound shot. What a body! Had the sun shone one his face a bit more the technicians would have gotten the look very nearly perfect! But I liked it. Whether the movie is as good as the hour of short snapshots, the effort is worth all the trouble I hope. Moviegoers often do not agree with reviewers, so think for yourself. If you like it, that is all that counts. If you don't, demand better, and most likely you will get it. I want more movies, not fewer!

It is a shame - as if they could have got Farrell's hair right, I think physically he might have been an okay Alexander - although somehow his face isn'nt expressive or open enough. But saying Troy is better - oh lordy..Still - "proper" reviews soon...
