Could We take Him?

Companios. Many A time with our knowledge and understanding of Alexander.I wonder as a collective group we could have defeated Alexander on the battle field, Or would his genious have been that he would have totally out thought and beat the hell out of us?Of course our knowledge is with hindsite. If I was in charge of 300000 men I would have consontrated the whole of my efforts to take out Alexander himself irrespective of the cost,, I do think kill Alexander and the macedonians would run.RegardsKenny

Hi Kenny,I think if we were collectively to take on Alexander, then we probably all need a few more trips to the gym, and a couple of years' practise walking across the Hindu Kush ... that's before we even *consider* organising a charge to try and take Alexander out.:-)All the bestMarcus

:-) Assuming we're outfitted like him, our Forum group would be facing the toughest and hardest conditioned men of their age, which can't be said for the rest of us, and the best of them would be surrounding the King who by the way, would have attacked and broken us before we'd even know what was happening or how to prepare. Sorry, but the thumb for the wargamers would not be effective here. He'd have broken our soft-bellied modern lines into a series of fleeing screaming human groups, males in front because they could run faster, females behind. And they would have wrote about the 'girly' men who ran from the field and the women who died honorably because they were slower. Hence the legend would grow as it did with the Persians that their females were worthier opponents then their men. PR never changes.Like a tynrannosaurus, Alexander is fascinating to study and watch, but not anything any of us should have a desire to meet personally on the field of battle on the opposing side. but to converse with, endlessly fascinating...

A very insightful piece of military analysis, if I might say so.So the guys should dress up as girls and run more slowly if we are to escape the stigma ... I'm game, er, I think.Marcus
