Did You Know This?

Post by ruthaki »

A chemist in Alexander's court invented the wristwatch. He tore cloth into strips to be later tied around the wrists of the soldiers and treated them with some chemical that would react with the skin temperature of the warrior's wrist and change colors at given intervals. They became known far and wide as Alexander's Rag Time Bands...(sorry, just couldn't resist :) ruthaki

Marcus, There used to be one about 'Alexander the Grape' but I can't remember it. Thought I'd share the Alexander jokes while we are waiting for the movie as I'm sure there'll be a rash of them afterwards! ruthaki

This was designed to put some lightness into the dialogues. Thanks for putting on the damper with the reality check. A bit of 'fun' is necessary in today's world just to keep up the 'incredible lightness of being...' (Even Alexander must have smiled from time to time.)

Ruth, you have a future in stand-up comedy. There must be some kind of a market for "ancient Alexander" jokes, as part of the routine. And please...let's hope there are not too many jokes about the film. From the hair to the horses, I have heard them all, already. I don't think anyone could come up with any new ones that I have not heard.Actually, the buzz on the film lately has been pretty good. I have read comments from a few of the Alexander "experts", (outside of this board), who have read a few of the script reviews and they were encouraged by what they read. Now how that translates to the screen is another story. But it's an encouraging sign, I guess.Dara

Hi Ruth,I didn't intend to put a damper on it, honest - sorry if you thought I did. I enjoyed the joke.I'd like to hear the "Alexander the Grape" one - I recall it was used as the headline in the Sunday Times article last year when a programme came out about what caused his death - if there's an actual joke, as opposed to a newspaperman's pun, I'm all for it! :-)All the bestMarcus
