Companions, HiWithin the forum and the whole study into Alexander conclusions and iseas try to be assessed at the Nature and thinking Of ATG.I honestly believe it to be impossible,,, How many people in this forum totally understand themselves or any one.We all have sides and emotions we cant understand and behaviours,, It is pushing it a bit if anyone believes they can understand Alexanders mind, His Demons or even his so called dark sides,,, I would say with all the comp;lexities of his own genius he hardly understood himself let alone 21st Century studiers trying to understand him.All that can be measured and understood is his achievements and all that he did within his life time.No one knows why Alexander lusted for Adventure, Glory,effection or what he was seeking.We can only judge his achievements and measure them against what was before and after and we certainly cant judge a man in his own time not ours.regardskenny

Hi Kenny,I reckon you're right. I have to say that I do find it interesting to speculate what might have been going on in Alexander's head, but I wouldn't presume to make claims on his behalf. Having said that, I think it is important to try and fathom out what might have been going on in his head, in order to try and gain better understanding of his actions. After all, the whole concept of Pothos, if indeed it meant anything to Alexander, is used by Arrian to justify a fair proportion of what he did ... What gets my goat is when people profess to 'know' what was going on in Alexander's mind. I'll accept any number of hypotheses.All the bestMarcus
